Job Summary:

The AMC School of Medicine has an opening for a fulltime Senior Instructor position. This position will reside within the Center for Health Equity (CHE) Evaluation and Data Services unit with faculty membership in the Department of Family Medicine (Regular Faculty Series). The Sr. Instructor will be expected to assist with developing research in health equity while collaborating with other members of the CHE Department of Family Medicine and other teams on campus. This position will participate in grant writing to secure extramural funding for their research program as well as contributing to CHEwide funding initiatives. They will provide professional and scientifically rigorous statistical expertise to support the CHEs communitydriven data dashboard and evaluation initiatives. This may include GIS mapping and spatial analysis development and testing of analytic solutions study design and analytic consultation management of large datasets biostatistics expertise and data visualization techniques. The position involves dissemination of results to a variety of audiences including community partners. Primary authorship and coauthorship on abstracts oral and poster presentations and scientific manuscripts will be involved. Preference will be given to candidates with strong backgrounds in social determinants of health research community engagement and practice and quantitative methods.

This position also provides research support to principal and coinvestigators (PIs and CoIs) research proposal development and project implementation and departmental analytical projects by ensuring data quality preparing analytic plans conducting analyses disseminating results providing project management and coordinating other research tasks. Further the individual in this role will provide support and mentorship to student research assistants and other trainees.

Examples of Work Performed

The duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

• Contributes to a program of research focused on social determinants of health securing extramural funding through competitive grant applications to federal agencies foundations and other funding sources.
• Contributes to grant writing efforts for the CHE including federal state foundation and private funding opportunities.
• Designs and implements spatial analysis using GIS software to develop and maintain the CHEs communitydriven data dashboard to track community health metrics and social determinants of health.
• Writes statistical programs in SAS R or other statistical software to analyze data collected from various research projects focused on community health neighborhoods and built environment and social determinants of health.
• Designs reports runs advanced queries and develops data transformations in existing database systems to support data interpretation reporting and systems conversions including management of data integrity and accuracy.
• Conducts complex statistical analyses including advanced methods (e.g. multilevel and longitudinal mixed effects models multiple linear and logistic regression spatial analysis and survival analysis) with a focus on understanding neighborhood and communitylevel factors affecting health.
• Develops and implements methodologies for communityengaged research that centers community voice and prioritizes communitydefined metrics and outcomes and assists in identifying robust existing data sets/sources for secondary analyses to assess impact.
• Consults with PIs CoIs and community partners on the design and implementation of data collection and analysis methodology for research projects.
• Manages data files that are derived from data collection with special attention to data sovereignty and ethical data stewardship in communityengaged research and protecting study participant privacy/confidentiality. Maintains and monitors data quality to identify and repair problems in data systems.
• Produces tables figures and accessible data visualizations for manuscripts presentations grant proposals and communityfacing materials.
• Contributes to writing manuscripts for peerreviewed journals writing abstracts for presentations at national and international meetings and contributes to writing analysis plans for grant submissions. May attend and/or present methodological study findings at professional/scientific meetings.
• Actively participates in educational forums e.g. statistical seminars mixed methods group meetings and community conversations about data and research both developing and leading these forums and participating as part of ongoing professional development.
• Under the direction of PIs manages activities timelines reports and other study needs. Coordinates and collaborates with PIs healthcare providers staff community partners and other stakeholders to ensure projects are meeting established goals and timelines. Assists with preparing project modifications amendments and progress reports.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

• Masters degree or higher in statistics biostatistics or related field.
• Minimum two years programming experience in statistical software (SAS R or similar).
• Three years experience in research/evaluation including experience with various research methods data collection data management and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. or currently pursuing a PhD in statistics biostatistics social epidemiology public health social work sociology or related field with substantial quantitative training.
• Experience with GIS mapping and spatial analysis of neighborhood and communitylevel data.
• Training or research experience in health equity social determinants of health and/or structural determinants of health.
• Experience working with communities that experience health disparities and engaging community members in research processes.
• Experience in securing extramural funding through competitive grant applications.
• Two years (2) of research experience in healthcare public health or social services.
• Experience analyzing large administrative datasets census data or electronic medical record data.
• Experience with communitybased participatory research approaches.
• Experience with data visualization and creating accessible data products for diverse audiences.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

To be successful in this position candidates will need the following:

• Knowledge of quantitative analytic methods and their application to health equity research.
• Ability to analyze large complex datasets including spatially referenced data.
• Experience applying inferential statistics research design principles data quality assurance approaches and survey research designs.
• Proficiency with GIS and spatial analysis software.
• Grant writing skills and experience with federal foundation and other funding mechanisms.
• Excellent computer skills particularly with statistical software (R SAS or similar) GIS platforms and Microsoft Office software (Word Excel Access Power Point and Outlook).
• Understanding of communityengaged research methods and ethical approaches to research with communities.
• Versatility and the ability to operate effectively and efficiently according to the needs and demands of concurrent projects and deadlines.
• Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills and able to maintain diplomacy with all collaborating partners including community members faculty and staff.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Senior Instructor: $90000 to $105000
