Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Affairs Information Technology & Communications the Graphic Designer is responsible for preparing materials with a level of creativity and ingenuity to develop graphic designs based on the goals and concepts of projects. This position will work under the lead of the Creative Graphic Designer (Graphic Designer II) providing support to a variety of departments to help meet goals by creating and sharing a cohesive brand across the departments.

FLSA: NonExempt (Eligible for overtime. This position is eligible for full benefits.)

Anticipated Hiring Range:$4058.00 per month $4261.00 per month

CSU Classification Salary Range:$4058.00 per month $6883.00 per month

Student Affairs Marketing and Communications supports the Division through strategic communication planning and the development of studentforward marketing campaigns.

Entry to the first level within this classification requires foundation knowledge in the principles and techniques of artistic and graphic design as well as demonstrated design and artistic skills. This knowledge and skill is normally obtained through a college degree in graphic design fine arts or a related field or through technical experience and/or relevant coursework. In addition strong communication skills and the ability to use and maintain currency with applicable computer software packages and systems are essential to entering this classification.

RequiredQualifications

  1. Demonstrated ability to prepare layouts and prepress production of various publications and artwork for divisional projects such as slide presentations newsletters signs flyers brochures directors maps posters billboards logos exhibits/displays and illustrations.
  2. Knowledge of graphic design principles and communication theory including a basic understanding of marketing and promotional concepts which is demonstrated through the presentation of a portfolio of prior work.
  3. Proficiency in graphic design and layout software such as Adobe InDesign Illustrator Photoshop and Acrobat Pro.
  4. General knowledge of systems techniques and processes used in website design photography printmaking content management systems (CMS) and applicable media.
  5. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and/or Office 365 (Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint).
  6. Knowledge of copyright laws especially relating to creative properties.
  7. Thorough knowledge of English grammar punctuation and spelling.
  8. Knowledge of office systems and ability to use a broader range of technology systems and packages.
  9. Ability to handle multiple work unit priorities and projects.
  10. Ability to organize plan develop and design marketing and promotional materials (e.g. flyers brochures surveys).
  11. Ability to consult and communicate effectively with stakeholders and to interpret and translate their needs into effective visual formats.
  12. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty students staff and community members.

  1. Experience working in an institution of higher education.
  2. Experience working within a brand book.
  3. Knowledge of style guides and how to apply policies and procedures regarding their use.
  4. Experience with marketing/communications campaigns.
  5. Ability to apply independently a wide variety of policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not exist.
