Job Title: ENG Y Field Design Support Manager

What Youll Do

Provide technical direction and administrative supervision for engineers and technical staff providing design support to production operations facilities and utilities organizations. Ensure a sense of urgency in providing support for troubleshooting issues providing compensatory measures and proposing repairs or modifications. Evaluate emergent issues to determine scope of support required and engage engineering disciplines as necessary. The role includes estimating forecasting specifying components designing procurement and construction support.

Work with the facility manager/system engineer/system health manager et al on the preparation and definition of proposed modifications within a facility or plantwide systems and with the designated project engineer if applicable to develop and ensure that the modification work scopes are complete.

Provide technical supervision and coordination of staff functions including applying appropriate quality requirements reviewing impacts to safetyrelated SSCs and ensuring that designs and/or equivalency evaluations satisfy relevant technical and change management requirements.

Maintain schedule tracking with sufficient detail to inform the Control Account Manager (CAM) of project status. Work with EP&C Programs Production and Projects to ensure estimating scheduling and execution of Design Engineering tasks is in alignment with mission goals. Ensure adherence to CNS Core Values Conduct of Engineering and Operating Principles for all responsible activities. Develop and provide qualified technical resources to execute Design Engineering functions in support of Production Operations and Y12 Projects.

Ensure that staff members apply the expertise needed to resolve design and equipment issues in cooperation with the cognizant Design Authority Representative Engineering Chiefs and other related technical disciplines. Ensure that personnel have sufficient hardware and software resources to complete assigned tasks. Coordinate with Engineering senior management to ensure effective implementation of Design Engineering processes in area of responsibility and that appropriately qualified personnel are deployed to support the successful delivery of the Y12 Engineering mission work tasks.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico the Washington Accord or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET
  • Minimum 7years of relevant experience.
  • In addition the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e. Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major and 4 years nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A Professional Engineering License (PE).
  • Minimum 3 yrs Management or Supervision Experience.
  • Experience in 3D engineering/modeling and machine design experience (preferably with gloveboxes furnaces high vacuum systems and metal casting/machining equipment)
  • Experience leading multidiscipline (i.e. mechanical electrical instrumentation/controls HVAC piping welding etc.) machine design efforts and producing build to print equipment fabrication packages including fabrication drawings specification calculations etc.
  • Experience with engineering calculations/analysis associated with machine design (i.e. finite element analysis structural and seismic analysis ergonomic studies kinematic calculations heat transfer calculations etc.)
  • Experience writing equipment fabrication specifications for specialty designed equipment
  • Knowledgeable in respective technical standards principles theories concepts and techniques
  • Experience with Pro/Engineer (CREO) CAD software
  • Ability to work in a project team environment and communicate well with other disciplines customers and stakeholders
  • Ability to follow procedures and work within a rigorous work process
  • Ability to estimate plan and track progress for preparation of discipline deliverables
  • Good written and oral communications skills

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712) which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligencescope polygraph examination.
