You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe position will be responsible for the physical construction and maintenance of projects aimed at enhancing protecting and creating wildlife habitats as well as structures used by Department staff and the public. This includes working on wildlife areas livestock fences shooting ranges water developments access roads administrative buildings earthen dams and fish hatcheries across Arizona.
Construct maintain and repair habitat development projects per Department policies procedures and standards and OSHA construction safety standards.
Load and unload project materials and personnel from trucks and helicopters strictly adhering to all related Department and OSHA safety policies and standards.
Operation of offhighway vehicles (OHV) fourwheel drive 3/4 ton 1 and 1.5 ton utility trucks heavy duty water trucks and skid steer loaders.
Operation and maintenance of a large variety of Department hand tools power tools welders and other construction equipment camp gear and work areas.
Completion of required Department electronic records and paperwork.
Transportation of construction materials and other supplies.
Attend and participate in Department training opportunities and meetings.
Provide quality customer outreach and supervision in the field when applicable.
May support the Navigational Aids or Heavy Equipment Programs which requires knowledge of navigational aids boating facilities docks and safe heavy equipment operation.
Performs other duties as assigned
The candidate will have knowledge of wildlife and wildlife habitats; construction and maintenance of habitat enhancements and developments; construction trades (carpentry plumbing working with cement welding painting); basic survey equipment levels string line power tools generators and welders; handling and applying of hazardous materials associated with fiber glassing PVC plumbing and other industrial waterproofing materials; transport personnel volunteers and materials via aircraft; helicopters; twoway radio communications; map reading; global positioning system devices; first aid; vehicle operations including OHVs fourwheel drive trucks 1 and 1.5 ton crew trucks and heavy duty water trucks; laws and rules pertaining to operating vehicles requiring a Commercial Drivers License; safe boating and navigational practices. The candidate will be skilled in fence building; use of pneumatic devices such as jack hammers rock drills and post pounders; operation of power tools such as chain saws gaspowered cutting saws and cement mixers; plumbing; welding; concrete skills including forming reinforcing mixing and pouring; masonry; fiber glassing; transporting materials over long distances on rough and remote roads; communication skills; team building; boat handling and buoy removal; safely operating and working around Heavy Equipment as needed. The candidate will have the ability to camp in extremely remote areas for extended periods of time; learn and follow directions.
Employment is also contingent upon completion of a postoffer medical/physical examination and the agencys ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
Position requires OSHA 10/30 certification Forklift/Telehandler certification and First Aid CPR certification (must obtain within 6 months of hire).
Position requires possession of and ability to retain a current valid State of Arizona Drivers License appropriate to the assignment; Class A CDL with tanker endorsements (must obtain within 6 months of hire).
Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current valid classappropriate drivers license complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary drivers license record checks. The license must be current unexpired and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R210207.11).
