POSITION SUMMARY:

TheSchoolCounselor will assist the Site Principal with student schedules graduation rates testing scholarships to enhance student achievement

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Arizona Counselor Certificate (K12)
    • Masters Degree in alignment with Arizona Department of Education School Counselor Certificate
  • Valid IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Experience with Powerschool PREFERRED
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere
  • Ability to use constructive techniques to resolve issues
  • Solid communication skills with students and adults
  • Solid organizational skills
  • Demonstrates organizational ability

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate various recognition programs and workshops on college planning financial aid and scholarships
  • Create student awareness of standardized testing and eligibility requirements for tests such as ACT SAT NCAA Clearinghouse etc. by participating in test coordination and notification
  • Consult and collaborate with teachers staff students families and other educational/community resources to meet the needs of student in the educational setting (Student Study Teams PBIS Teams etc.)
  • Provide and participate in crisis counseling /intervention
  • Provide appropriate resources and recommendations to families
  • Provide mediation services for students parents and/or teachers
  • Provide counseling and collaborate with interventionist and parent liaison to students who are frequently tardy absent or who have disciplinary problems
  • Develop implement and monitor Education and Career Action Plans (ECAP) for all students in accordance with the State Board of Education Rule
  • Verify the required credits classes and assessments necessary to meet graduation and/or postsecondary goals including standardized testing assist students course selection
  • Develop credit recovery and/or student study skills plan(s)
  • Counsel and support individual student planning through the development of social/emotional educational and career goals
  • Help students examine and build upon their personal strengths abilities interests and talents
  • Collaborates with colleagues through weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings to work on school counseling programs; share progress with district counseling team.
  • Participate in continuous professional learning to improve knowledge and skills
  • Collaborate with colleagues on school/district policies procedures and practices
  • Uses available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program
  • Evaluates transcipts of all new students
  • Coordinates records requests in support of the Guidance Clerk
  • Collaborate with assitant principaldean and interventionist to monitor students progress
  • Assists students in course selection
  • Participates in registration and scheduling processes for developing student class schedules (including 8th grade registration/orientation)
  • Active participation in Intervention Planning Teams 504 and IEP processes
  • Coordinate with parents and students to assist in academic/career/social issues
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required

While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 20 lbs such as boxes supplies etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision and depth perception.

Occasional travel may be required for site visits meetings trainings and/or conferences. Locations may vary and may require overnight stays.
