Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the following: Process samples/tissues submitted for bacterial/fungal culture or other tests as needed in the Microbiology section; isolate bacterial and fungal organisms including the more fastidious anaerobes and mycoplasmas; perform tests and procedures to identify various bacterial and fungal organisms including animal and zoonotic pathogens; perform antimicrobial sensitivity testing. Formulation preparation quality assurance and sterility checking of media and reagents used for the isolation and identification of bacteria and fungi. Interacting with clients through email and telephone to satisfy their diagnostic needs as well as reporting appropriate accurate and timely results through an online reporting and database system. Responsible for general maintenance of laboratory equipment ordering supplies safety procedures quality control and MSDS information general housekeeping etc. Necessary training will be provided. Offensive odors at times with the use of the autoclave of bacterial cultures. Occasionally required to work after 5:00 p.m. May sometimes be required to work during weekends and/or holidays.

Position Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: High school diploma/ years related experience. Postsecondary education may be substituted in lieu of experience. Background in microbiology biology or medical laboratory in either a work or college laboratory setting. Strong interest in diagnostic microbiology. Necessary training will be vaccination with aseptic techniques chemical measurements and calculations. Ability to communicate well with other technical personnel. Rabies vaccination required. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors degree in microbiology or biology. Experience in microbiology biology or medical laboratory in either a work or college laboratory setting. Strong interest in diagnostic microbiology.
