About Us:

The Ohio Narcotics Intelligence Center (ONIC) is a division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety that operates in four locations across Ohio in Columbus Cleveland Cincinnati and Toledo. The ONIC offices are comprised of criminal intelligence analysts and forensic computer specialists that assist law enforcement agencies and drug task forces by providing investigative and case support and informationsharing networks that bridge traditional law enforcement and criminal justice with stakeholders across industries.

The ONIC leverages cutting edge technologies and analytical techniques to detect identify and intercept dangerous drugs. The ONIC supports investigations including significant cases involving large drug seizures organized crime and drug trafficking organizations drug poisoning deaths firearms trafficking cryptocurrency seizures drugrelated violent crimes and online illicit drug markets.

What Youll Do:

Report In Location: 2 Maritime Plaza Toledo Ohio 43604

Work Hours: 8:00AM to 5:00PM

At the direction of the Public Safety Intelligence Manager within the Narcotics Intelligence Center (NIC) collect organize & analyze data review & analyze problems & information related to potential threats & develop research tools &/or means used in analyzing & disseminating intelligence information & create & implement sophisticated &/or complex criminal & terrorist related analytical products & policies:

  • Develop proper research tools methods & intelligence request forms to appropriately accommodate intelligence information;
  • Identify & analyze informational databases spreadsheets & reports allowing information to be easily exchanged & understood;
  • Prepare intelligence reports products & briefings for presentation to all public safety partners;
  • Coordinate interstate & intrastate information;
  • Provide operational guidance to partners;
  • Maintain association with & facilitates exchange of information between federal state & local law enforcement agencies & taskforces for disposition of criminal activity &/or intelligence information on criminal activity (e.g. narcotic trafficking illegal dark web activity);
  • Collect research & analyze intelligence information & other resources to determine patterns trends & movements of criminals to aid law enforcement agencies with investigations;
  • Coordinate research activities with other departmental units &/or outside agencies;
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal statutes & Ohio Revised Code (ORC);
  • Assist in reviewing & recommending intelligence &/or analytical related software & hardware equipment;
  • Create sophisticated &/or complex criminal & narcotic related policies;
  • Formulate & implement plans policies & procedures for the receipt of locally & federally generated time sensitive threat information (e.g. policies & protocols for state & local governmental entities in the State of Ohio) in order to: assess local implications of timesensitive & emerging threat information;
  • Identify the dissemination of time sensitive & emerging threat information to all law enforcement homeland security partners & other related public safety disciplines;
  • Gather locally generated information (e.g. criminal activity suspicious activity reporting) based on time sensitive & emerging threats;
  • Independently review & analyze problems related to sophisticated criminal &/or complex organized crimerelated activity from agency personnel & other intelligence units.
  • Maintain common operating picture for the State of Ohio including overall threats hazards & response operations throughout the state &/or nation as resources are deployed;
  • Support information & intelligence gathering situational awareness reports;
  • Support incident specific briefing to senior agency leadership & others as directed;
  • Review correspondence directives & reports to ensure accuracy & completeness;
  • Analyze trends that may indicate potential need for state involvement & asset deployment;
  • Conduct special analytical studies to support the agency;
  • Serve as resource person & technical advisor (e.g. responds to requests for information; represents agency in meetings) in area of criminal intelligence & public safety;
  • Schedule coordinate &/or conduct classes seminars & conferences;
  • Assist with officerelated tasks as they pertain to the functionality & operation of the NIC;
  • Respond to the Hub State Fusion Center or Emergency Operations Center during critical incidents;
  • Represent the NIC at meetings & conferences;
  • Crosstrain job duties with Homeland Security & Criminal Intelligence;
  • Utilize state vehicle to travel to various locations with required jobrelated equipment (e.g. laptop surveillance equipment etc.) in order to collect research & analyze intelligence information & other resources to determine patterns & trends of illegal dark web drug activity &/or professional criminals to assist law enforcement agencies &/or taskforces & public safety agencies with investigations & the mitigation of public safety incidents;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN THE CLASSIFICATION AFTER EMPLOYMENT:

If required must obtain LEADS certification; must renew LEADS certification biannually. Additionally positions at Department of Public Safety must be able to obtain & maintain a secret level federal security clearance.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

May require some travel. Working hours will include nights weekends and holidays based on operational need.

This position may be filled by layoff or certification eligibility list if applicable.

This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a federal Secret level Security Clearance.

This position requires a valid drivers license to operate stateowned vehicle or must be able to provide own transportation.

ABCI and FBI fingerprint check a background check including a polygraph examination may be required on all selected applicants.

A comparative analysis and/or drugtest may be a requirement of the hiring process.

This position is identified as safety sensitive & subject to random drug & alcohol testing in accordance with DPS 501.24
