The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Clear Air Advocacy InterninSacrament California.Alongside members of the Advocacy and Public Policy team you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research education and advocacy.
The intern will assist the American Lung Association clean air advocacy staff to execute research communications and policyrelated activities to gain experience in the field of public policy advocacy.
This is an unpaid internship position requiring a minimum time commitment of 35 hours per week (flexible schedule) and must be affiliated with an eligible college or university. This position is for Summer 2025.
PROJECTS
This is a great opportunity for the intern to enhance their skills in organization multitasking and communications. The intern can expect to develop confidence and marketable skills by engaging in or assisting with many of the following activities:
- Gain a basic understanding of the American Lung Association
- Become knowledgeable of mission development and communications efforts.
- Gain technical training by utilizing TECHNOLOGY
- Participate in staff meetings and learning opportunities.
- Communications
- Assist in the development of media materials such as press releases facts sheets and briefing documents as well as working to develop compelling media pitches and story angles.
- Assist in compiling media lists media calendars and communications plans.
- Assist with brainstorming and providing creative ideas to execute communications efforts for events programs and advocacy efforts with the California team.
- Advocacy
- Research and summarize public health facts and figures.
- Assist in analyzing air quality and climate change policies in the areas of transportation and clean energy.
- Develop and conduct presentations on clean air and climate change research and policies.
- Support advocacy efforts through writing advocacy letters talking points fact sheets and other materials as needed.

- Learn more about NonProfit structure including mission development and communications efforts.
- Learn how to develop communications for policymakers coalitions and the general public.
- Gain technical training by utilizing research and communications tools.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be working towards or have recently completed a bachelors degree public policy or related field
- Must be affiliated with college or university (e.g. eligible to receive college credit for internship)
- Qualified candidates must be enthusiastic reliable and interested in developing a career in public policy or nonprofit management
- Qualified candidates should possess strong writing skills attention to detail and have a keen interest in the mission of the American Lung Association
