NOTICE OF VACANCY

Tiered Intervention Specialist

Do you have a passion for supporting students and families Montgomery County Schools in Virginia is now accepting applications for a Tiered Intervention Specialist (TIS) position that is available for the school year. The TIS collaborates with schools to ensure the delivery of equitable datainformed interventions that promote student wellbeing reduce disciplinary disparities and cultivate inclusive supportive learning environments.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is instrumental in advancing the divisions strategic goal of reducing disproportionality in student discipline and increasing positive academic and behavioral outcomes for all students. This role involves offering guidance and support to school administrators and schoolbased teams in implementing and enhancing the tiered interventions and support processes. The TIS also supports families by working to help remove barriers to student success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND SKILLS:

  • Assist teams in identifying barriers to success
  • Provide attendance and behavior data to assist teams in making informed decisions
  • Assist with developing attendance plans and reducing chronic absenteeism
  • Support the implementation of functional behavioral assessments and the development of behavior intervention plans
  • Promote a culture that emphasizes respect and sensitivity
  • Support and problem solve with building administrators around tiered systems of support
  • Coordinate with schools to develop transition plans
  • Provide direct services to students and classroom teachers to promote positive behaviors through mental health services and individual counseling
  • Collaborate with families to determine needed supports for students to help increase success at school
  • Collaborate with community partners to connect families with needed resources
  • Facilitate problemsolving and datareview meetings to guide datainformed decisionmaking and ensure implementation fidelity.
  • Promote integration of academic behavioral and mental health supports within a cohesive MTSS framework.
  • Guide and support the consistent implementation of PBIS frameworks across all school levels ensuring alignment with district expectations.
  • Lead implementation of restorative practices including restorative circles peer mediation and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Monitor and evaluate restorative outcomes including reduction in exclusionary discipline and improved student relationships.
  • Analyze disaggregated student behavior and attendance data to identify trends and support equitable outcomes.
  • Participate in divisionwide data reviews and contribute to the development of publicfacing accountability tools.
  • Facilitate family education sessions to build understanding of PBIS SEL restorative practices and student support systems.
  • Support implementation of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and the development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) for students requiring intensive support.
  • Collaborate with building leaders to develop and monitor individualized reentry and transition plans for students returning from suspension or alternative placements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in counseling social work psychology special education social service related field or educational related field
  • Three or more years of related experience
  • Knowledge in counseling and education services including alcohol other drugs and violence prevention
  • Demonstrated expertise in PBIS MTSS SEL restorative practices and behavioral intervention
  • Excellent interpersonal organizational and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Knowledge and experience of social service sources in the community
  • Possess leadership ability and team building skills
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Welldeveloped problemsolving skills and the ability to develop conceptual alternatives
  • Possess the ability to implement and incorporate existing protocol practices and policies into the work environment

Working Conditions

  • Duties are performed in school settings and division offices with frequent travel between schools.

FLSA: Exempt

SALARY: $52966.53 $83120.04 annually with benefits; commensurate with experience (current salary scale may change due to budget considerations)
