Responsible for the maintenance of the standard cost system manufacturing accounting and analysis variance reporting and accurate bill of materials (BOM)/assemblies in a completely integrated ERP environment. Review of variances with manufacturing and engineering personnel to resolve and update items for future production. Conduct studies of material labor and overhead expenses to determine production costs as well as other costrelated performance measures. Provide costrelated data for use in financial reporting and seek continuous improvement in the analysis of standards costs across the organization.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Reviews costs for all external inventory labor and material purchases and recommend costs and cost savings
- Compare standard vs. actual production costs and recommend improvements
- Maintain and analyze cost rates for labor overhead and material handling.
- Owns the full cycle of cost accounting process including cost allocation analysis tracking.
- Complete monthend close duties relating to the balance sheet and P/L statements
- Review final work order costs and investigate variances to provide corrections to the manufacturing team.
- Prepare consolidated financial reports and management reports
- Oversees inventory reconciliation through physical/cycle counting documentation and record retention
- Establish and maintain accounting principles (GAAP) practices and procedures
- Support Corporate Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements
- Responsible for general ledger accounting including journal entries accruals reconciliations closing statements and schedules
- Perform and adhere to internal controls
- Initiate plans and processes which minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of resources equipment facilities and materials
- Contains and/or reduces cost and drives productivity within the department
- Assist with annual budget preparation submission and updates to accounting system
- Assist with audit field work for both financial and operational audits
- Abide by company policies
- Maintain confidentiality and protect proprietary information
- In order to achieve business objectives work weeks in excess of 40 hours may be required
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelors degree in Finance or Accounting or 10 years of directly related experience is required
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
- Preferred experience with JDE or other ERP system
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Management Account (CMA) preferred
- Technical working knowledge of GAAP
- Excellent skills with Excel and entire Microsoft Office Suite
- Must work independently without supervision exercising discretion and judgment
Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job work is performed primarily in an adequately lit well ventilated climate controlled general office environment. Close computer work is regularly required. The work usually involves minimal physical exertion. The noise level in the general office environment is usually moderate.
This job may require occasional or more frequent interaction with employees on the manufacturing shop floor. While on the shop floor the employee may be exposed to fumes airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals risks of moving equipment and parts and other risks associated with a manufacturing environment. Because of this environment and associated risks coordination with shop floor managers/employees may be necessary before entering the shop floor and use of job appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing is required on the shop floor. The noise level on the shop floor is often loud.
