An exciting career opportunity is open with Caterpillar Resource Industries Group in Hauling Products Performance and Controls Team to support Large Mining Truck product development.

You will be responsible for leading engineering activities to ensure Machine Performance meets customer requirements critically evaluate strategic concepts for future products mentor and coach junior performance engineers work with dealers and customers to resolve machine performance issues.

You will also be responsible for coaching and mentoring junior performance and controls engineers and developing standard work and processes.

What you will do:

  • Lead Machine Performance development for multiple or major Large Mining Truck (LMT) machine programs working with various teams across Caterpillar. Will have Performance maintenance and CPI responsibility for several machine platforms.

  • Will coach and mentor junior Performance and Controls engineers Interns and Agency/Contract employees in the team.

  • Develop standard work and processes working with various team members across the organization.

  • Perform expert evaluations of concepts to understand machine Performance (Fuel Efficiency & Productivity) Total Cost of Ownership and Cost/ton tradeoffs for multiple customer sites and drive decisionmaking on final configuration(s) selection.

  • Drive complex simulations as needed leveraging experts across organizations to make tradeoff decisions on configurations and control logics.

  • Provide detailed performance requirements for subsystem development (Engine Powertrain Hydraulics Braking Cooling etc.) that enable meeting machine performance requirements (primarily productivity and efficiency)

  • Develop controls requirements to optimize the machine performance for various customer segments and operating conditions. Oversee development and validation plans of the same to ensure highest quality control software development employing Virtual Product Development Software in the Loop and Hardware in the Loop processes.

  • Participate in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Validation workshops for the machine NPI programs.

  • Lead validation of machine performance at proving grounds and customer sites.

  • Develop machine field risk mitigation/monitoring plans for pilot machines.

  • Publish machine performance data for internal and external use.

  • Initiate and support New Technology Introduction (NTI) programs that impact the products short and longterm strategies.

What Skills you will have:

Technical Excellence:Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

  • Machine/Vehicle level performance or integration experience

  • Strong system engineering knowledge (Engine Powertrain Hydraulics etc.)

  • Knowledge of controls systems and software requirements development

Process Management:Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand monitor update control or enhance existing business or work processes. Prior experience leading crossfunctional teams in matrix organization

Accuracy and Attention to Detail:Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.

Analytical Thinking:Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problemsolving ability.

Effective Communications:Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in a workgroup as well as employees in other business units customers and suppliers. Demonstrated record of being a selfstarter with strong technical leadership and presentation skills.

ProblemSolving:Knowledge of approaches tools and techniques for recognizing anticipating and resolving organizational operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problemsolving appropriately to diverse situations.

Project Management:Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan organize monitor and control projects ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

ComputerAided Design & Engineering:Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized simulation/analysis programs; ability to produce analyze simulate and test product design drafts.

Education Requirement:Bachelors degree in engineering or equivalent education.

Top Candidates will also have:

Large Mining Truck (LMT) experience

Demonstrated project leadership in a matrix organization

Machine/Vehicle performance requirements development and validation experience

Machine controls requirements development and validation experience

Hands on testing and data collection experience

Machine performance simulation experience

Experience with FPC VST and Dynasty tools

Knowledge of Matlab Simulink Python etc. is a plus

Additional Information:

This position requires the candidate to work fulltime in the Tucson AZ office.

Domestic relocation assistance is available.

This position may require 510 % travel.

Summary Pay Range:

$126000.00 $189000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors job level market locationjobrelated knowledge skills individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
