Job Description

General Summary:

  • Under general supervision manages the daytoday billing function for assigned payeroriented work unit(s) of Patient Fiscal Services or for offcampus community hospital contract locations to assure the timely collection and posting of receivables optimum cash flow and reduction of accounts receivable days and bad debt.
  • Supervises the work of assigned staff provides coverage and inservice training and ensures adherence to established Hospital policies procedures and deadlines.
  • Serves as a resource regarding billing and reimbursement issues for all payors and special projects.
  • Prepares required reports and reconciles accounts receivable balances to general ledger control accounts.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Work requires knowledge of accounting principles management theory laws and regulations governing thirdparty reimbursement and collections and strong oral and written communications and supervisory skills acquired through;
    • A Bachelors degree in business administration accounting or systems management and 23 years related experience
    • Or an AA degree and 45 years related experience
    • Or a High school degree/GED and 67 years related experience
  • Work requires analytical skills sufficient to identify and resolve problems integrate and interpret data for effective reporting and recommend modifications to procedures and computer systems.
  • Work requires interpersonal skills sufficient to serve as Hospital representative to assigned thirdparty payor(s) insurance companies institutions or individual regarding billing issues; interact effectively with all internal and external customers; regularly supervise the work of assigned staff; explain policies and procedures in difficult situations; and collect delinquent accounts.
  • Work requires attention to detail in preparing and reviewing reports and reviewing patient accounts knowledge and use of two computerized billing systems and stress in meeting deadlines and very frequently results in mental/visual fatigue.
