Job Description
Job Description:
Brookline Science teachers teach using phenomena basedinquiry to guide students toward deep understanding of key science concepts and mastery of science and engineering practices. They are passionate about Science facilitate engaging studentcentered learning and are lifelong learners.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Demonstrate appropriate long and short term preparation for classroom instruction
- Hold high expectations for all students
- Organize and use a variety of effective teaching techniques strategies materials and technologies to maximize the learning of each child individually and in group settings
- Implement district approved resources including Open SciEd to provide consistent instruction.
- Continuously assess student progress provide students and parents with specific feedback and use the results to adjust instruction as needed
- Provide opportunities for academic support and challenge
- Teaching the appropriate MA standards in the Brookline scope and sequence
- Demonstrate an understanding of how knowledge in the subject areas is created organized and linked to other disciplines and life experiences
- Keep current in the field of Science innovative teaching strategies and learning research share their learning with others and apply what they learn in the classroom
- Collaborate with colleagues to examine student data plan curriculum and ensure appropriate learning experiences for all students
- Demonstrates an understanding of grading for equity and standards based grading.
- Establish and maintain a functional attractive orderly and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and builds a sense of community
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree with major or minor in science preferred
- Proficiency in teaching Science viaphenomena based inquiry and studentcentered learning
- Working knowledge of the MA Science Technology and Engineering framework including science and engineering practices and crosscutting concepts
- Familiarity with topics taught in middle school science
- Excellent classroom management skills
- Mass. DESE certification General 58 Science OR Middle School Math/Science 58
- SEI endorsement
