TITLE: K5 MATH ACHIEVEMENT COACH JOB GOAL:The K5 Math Achievement Coach Position is a full time teacher leader position. The Math Achievement Coach works collaboratively as a team with the K8 Mathematics Coordinator Elementary Principals and the Assistant Superintendent. They are responsible for ensuring highquality instruction in classrooms through modeling coplanning coteaching and providing feedback to teachers. This is NOT a supervisory position and DOES NOT include evaluation of Coaches are a critical lever in improving student achievement by building teacher capacity and understanding of instructional practices aligned to the RI Core Standards for Mathematics and the Standards for Mathematical Practice. Achievement Coaches are teachers who have strong expertise in both mathematics content and extensive experience in using researchbased instructional practices. Achievement Coaches are also skilled in using data to inform instruction and intervention. They work collaboratively with classroom teachers school and district leaders in the analysis of data to identify students with the greatest need for increased achievement. They meet with teachers/teams to reflect on their use of researchbased instructional practice and develop goals for coaching. Achievement Coaches develop and implement 46 week Coaching Cycle Plans that include modeling and coteaching specific instructional practices observing classroom instruction and providing feedback and continued support for teachers to successfully implement the changes in practice. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the instructional development of all teachers and leaders in understanding the key components of High Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) instructional practice and classroom LookFors.Assist the school and district leaders and teacher leaders in analyzing achievement data to prioritize classrooms and grade levels for achievement coaching.Create a coaching schedule in collaboration with school leaders and the K8 Mathematics Coordinator.Provide high quality professional learning experiences based on adult learning theory to enhance teachers understanding and implementation of the core curriculum and researchbased instructional practices to increase student achievement. The primary focus will be individual teacher or grade level coaching but may extend to providing training for larger groups.Provide technical support to collaborative teams within buildings during Collaborative Team Time. Support teachers in attaining their professional growth goals by using coaching strategies that gradually release responsibility for implementing instructional practices to the teacher (for example coplanning modeling coteaching sidebyside coaching and observing).Analyze teacher practice through ongoing classroom observations the use of classroom LookFor tools data analysis and examination of student work. Provide clear and direct feedback to teachers based on analysis of practice. Assist in the collection and analysis of assessment data schoolwide and districtwide to inform curriculum and instructional practices across the district.Develop teachers capacity to collect and analyze multiple sources of data to improve Tier 1 learning and Tier 2 interventions.Help to foster grade level and schoolwide collaboration focused on high expectations for all students academic rigor and the academic and social emotional supports needed to increase achievement.Maintain copies of Coaching Cycle Plans Coaching Logs and Coaching Data to be shared with the K8 Math Coordinator Assistant Superintendent and Principals as relevant to their school. Complete other duties as may be assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and/or Superintendent.Attendance is an essential function of all BWRSD positions.
