JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for maintaining and repairing Sheriff office vehicles and other equipment such as patrol cars generators lawn equipment boats ATVs trailers and any other equipment owned by the Sheriffs office. Incumbent must supervise and instruct inmates on their duties and responsibilities and in operation of equipment. Duties also include preparing vehicles for auction. This position reports to the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.

Salary: $44874.50 $52015.12

Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensures that their work area is clean organized safe and presentable in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and submits in a timely manner their time/attendance/leave sheets pursuant to agency policies.
  • Oversees the care/custody/control of inmates and detainees pursuant to applicable agency policies/procedures and FMJS regulations and requirements.
  • Instruct inmates in the correct operation of equipment providing safety instructions and corrective feedback in order for the inmates to master the operating procedures and controls in a safe efficient manner pursuant to FMJS requirements and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Inspects vehicle to ensure that personal effects are removed prior to the vehicle going to auction; record vehicle VIN number and odometer reading and assign work orders to personnel to repair crash damage and remove equipment.
  • Inspects fleet parking lot and building in the morning for damaged vehicles and security of the building and again at fleet maintenance in the evening for security.
  • Ensures that regularly used supplies and parts do not fall below a specified level. Parts and supplies are ordered on a regular basis or as needed.
  • Analyzes required repairs and properly determines if the necessary repair is beyond the scope capabilities or resources of the vehicle maintenance section thus requiring the job to be contracted out to an external source.
  • Checks and maintains or replaces all fluid systems filters steering gear fuel pumps / injectors / carburetors starters generators alternators cooling/exhaust systems lights brakes and safety equipment to ensure proper operational status of the vehicle in accordance with agency policy.
  • Analyzes the computer generated diagnosis identify the mechanical malfunction and adjust repair or replace parts/systems as needed consistent with agency policy.
  • Inspects returned repaired vehicles and either signs off on paperwork from the body shop or requests inspection by a mechanic to ensure proper working order.
  • Transports vehicles to and from dealerships vendors between district stations and/or as otherwise directed by authorized individuals in accordance with agency policies/procedures.
  • Operates the vehicle in a courteous manner and will obey all posted road signs and rules/laws of the road while operating an agency owned vehicle.
  • Cleans inspects and services designated shop equipment according to a routine schedule established by the agency to ensure that all equipment is capable of performing to the specifications for which it was designed.
  • Makes service calls and emergency field repairs in a timely manner and in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Applies safety standards for use and storage of paint/chemicals/equipment
  • Remains knowledgeable of all applicable safety standards governing the storage and use of automotive body repair items such as paint chemicals and equipment. The member ensures that all safety standards and practices are applied and followed including those originating from EPP OSHA and/or any other applicable governing/regulatory body.
  • Installs items such as fire extinguishers hat racks gun racks first aid kits decals and/or other necessary and approved items in agency owned vehicles both marked and unmarked in accordance with manufacturers specifications and in the designated/approved locations to ensure proper accessibility/visibility as required.
  • Fabricates and installs the security cage and related equipment in accordance with agency policy.
  • Assists mechanics in troubleshooting difficult mechanical problems to facilitate the proper and timely repair of the respective vehicle.
  • Transports vehicle to and from local venders for other repairs.
  • Notifies their supervisor or other designated agency individual when damage has occurred to their agency owned vehicle or when it has been involved in an accident. The member will also properly complete any associated paperwork within the established timeframes.
  • Ensures that their area of responsibility is in complete compliance with health and safety regulations in accordance with established agency policies applicable OSHA regulations and any other applicable regulatory agencies. The member observes all health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Repairs other pieces of equipment such as generators lawn maintenance tools chain saws golf carts and ATVs.
  • Attends automotive classes to improve training.
  • Serves as essential personnel and be able to respond during emergency situations.
  • Processes applicable incoming and outgoing documents and/or files in a timely manner consistent with supervisory direction and/or agency policies/procedures.
  • Participates in crosstraining with other coworkers; assists those coworkers when the need arises and learns new tasks by working together as a team.
  • Reports identified or potential maintenance safety and/or noncompliance findings hazards and incidents to the appropriate personnel and/or department.
  • Timely completes all assignments special projects and budgetary requirements (if applicable) as directed adhering to applicable agency policies.
  • Adheres to leave and attendance policies including punctual arrival and completing full shifts. Informs the supervisor about illness or untimely incidents reports overtime hours worked and timely submits timesheet attendance and leave requests.
  • Regularly checks assigned mailbox phone calls PowerDMS and email messages responding promptly and professionally.
  • Makes assigned chain of command aware of anything noteworthy.
  • Responds to supervision guidance direction and feedback from executive staff and superiors in a receptive manner and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Conducts themselves in a polite helpful courteous ethical and professional manner abiding by the established code of ethics and demonstrates a courteous and professional image when engaged in any activity with the public.
  • Cultivates positive working relationships with colleagues and other agency units to enhance work area output and services in line with agency policies.
  • Demonstrates an understanding consideration and respect of cultural religious and gender differences when interacting with the public and coworkers.
  • Prepares for conducts actively participate in jobspecific training.
  • Operates and performs minor repairs for office equipment to manufacturers specifications and/or within the specified parameters pursuant to agency policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education Experience and Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of related experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft office products
  • Speak and understand the English language
  • Internal candidates must have successfully completed their probationary period.
  • Internal candidates with punitive disciplinary action within 365 days are ineligible.
  • Internal candidates must have completed applicable CCSO FTEP requirements.

  • The following items (or authorized equivalents) may be required at various steps in the application process:

    4. Form DD214 for all periods served in the military
    5. GED or High School Diploma and Sealed Transcripts from the highest level of education

Certification Licenses and Registrations Requirements:

  • ASE certifications preferred.

  • Ability to demonstrate an adequate ability to accurately interpret and correctly use test equipment results and data.
  • Efficiently organize prioritize and manage daily tasks and assignments.

Supplemental Information

Salary is negotiable for fulltime positions prior to initial hire if requested based on verified experience up to step five (5) of the assigned pay grade. Current employee salary changes are determined based on internal methodology. Please contact Human Resources with any questions.
