Job Description

Location: Amarillo Texas
Job Title: Maintenance Light Equipment Operator (Mason)
Organization: North Zone Maintenance ()

Essential Job Duties

  • Operates equipment such as loaders backhoes ditching machines rollers chemical and pesticide spray units tar pots tractors washing and cleaning facility equipment sand blast facility equipment air compressors forklifts etc. and all other equipment required to perform work assignments within this classification.
  • Performs daily maintenance on assigned equipment such as making minor adjustments to mechanical mechanisms to ensure proper operation and changes cutting edges blades nozzles chemicals blast grit etc.
  • Normal duties includes but are not limited to digging ditches pits and holes moving furniture and equipment applying herbicides and pesticides and repair of concrete and masonry (including tile setting); repairing roads roof repairs and operating equipment and systems assigned tothis classification.
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all equipment and systems assigned under this classification.
  • Responsible for inspecting assigned equipment to ensure correct mechanical performance and reports all malfunctions to immediate supervisor.
  • Responsible for maintaining a current proficiency of all equipment assigned within this classification.
  • Responsible for performing all work according to established safety rules/guidelines.
  • Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal State DOE Corporate and Plant rules regulations Labor Agreements and Plantwide operating policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as determined by the Training and Development Technologies Department through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 426.2) and Management.
  • Participates in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controls.
  • Understands a workers right to stop work when they feel their own or others personal safety is jeopardized.
  • Attends all required safety meetings and training. Offers suggestions on improvements to the work environment.

Skills and Minimum Qualifications

  • Light Equipment Operator
    • Must be able to perform all duties and functions outlined above.
    • Must meet initial employment requirements.
    • Must be able to read write and comprehend applicable written and/or oral instructions.
    • Must be physically fit to perform the above job functions as determined by Medical Evaluation.
    • Must have a valid State Motor Vehicle Operators License.
  • Must be able to qualify for or possess a valid Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL).
    • Must have sufficient experience (satisfactory to line management) in operating and maintaining equipment and systems required to perform work assignments within this classification as enumerated in Functions above .
    • Must be physically able to wear a respirator to perform any job assigned as determined by Medical Evaluation.
    • All qualifications work history training and education are to be verified by direct contact with former employers and/or documented proof. Ability to perform the functions and responsibilities involved will be determined by a comprehensive interview and background evaluation.
  • Concrete Finisher/Tile Mason
    • Requires six years experience as a journeyman mason OR completed a fouryear apprenticeship training course and two years verifiable experience in concrete finishing or masonry trade

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

DOE Oorder 426.2 Requirements

Personnel entering positions and performing duties identified by management as falling under the requirements of DOE O 426.2 must meet certain minimum education and experience requirements as provided in the Order. Refer to the current DOE O 426.2 Position Matrix for guidance.

Functional Requirements

  • Lifting or carrying less than 51 pounds (or specify # of pounds 40)
  • Straight pulling or pushing (2hours/day)
  • Reaching above shoulder level
  • Repetitive motion of the wrist/forearm
  • Walking (2hours/day)
  • Standing (2hours/day)
  • Repeated bending at the waist
  • Repeated squatting
  • Climbing with legs only (stairs)
  • Climbing with arms and legs (ladder etc.)
  • Operation of motorized vehicle
  • Normal far vision in at least one eye correctable to 20/40 (20 feet)
  • Near vision (must be able to read computer screen manuscript book etc at approximately 1316 inches from face)
  • Depth perception (ability to tell how close or far an object is)
  • Must demonstrate practical ability to differentiate colors
  • No evidence of current drug or alcohol abuse
  • Ability to use small tools
  • Ability to perform safetysensitive duties

Notes

  • Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
  • Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required candidate must complete a counterintelligencescope polygraph pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
