POSITION DESCRIPTION/PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The Staff Accountant is responsible for billing government grants; participating in the month end close process payables prepaid card inventory management and other tasks assigned. This position requires a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal controls. The Staff Accountant position must be able to manage several projects simultaneously and adhere to deadlines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Grant Billing and Analysis

  • Adhere to funding deadlines to submit costreimbursement invoices
  • Adept at working in the Excel invoicing workbooks
  • Assist in special projects as assigned

General Ledger Payables and Month End Close

  • Prepare journal entries
  • Record inventory distributions into the accounting solution
  • Reconcile inventory balances against the general ledger
  • Additional tasks as assigned

Year End Closeout and Financial Audit

  • Maintain subledgers to confirm year end GL account balances
  • Assist with providing documentation to the outside CPA firm
  • Additional tasks as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree or Associate Degree in Accounting; required
  • 13 years of experience in accounting or finance
  • Experience with financial reporting general ledger management journal entries and monthend/quarterend closing procedures
  • Knowledge of account reconciliation accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
  • Understanding of internal controls and financial processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Outlook PowerPoint and Word
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel including advanced functions such as pivot tables VLOOKUPs and formulas
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others and provide consistent proactive service to staff and partners
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies or errors in financial data

Physical Requirements

Able to remain sedentary for extended periods perform computer and data entry functions.

Work Environment

This position is eligible for hybrid schedule working from home and Hired location. Requires the use of general office equipment.
