Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking an experiencedPrincipal Mechanical Design Engineerin our Orlando FL location. The selected individual willmanage large complex project initiatives of substantial importance to the organization while working with and providing guidance to a team of mechanical engineers. This individual must be capable of devising solutions to complex engineering problems both independently and by soliciting input from other technical subject matter experts across the organization.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will work independently as well as working with other stakeholders to provide technical direction that will drive the success of all programs at Coleman. This typically includes working closely with internal and external customers while guiding our team of mechanical engineers. May be personally responsible for portions of the design and documentation efforts.

Essential Functions:

• Ability to create and guide the development of aerospace structure designs including structure assemblies component installations and bracket designs that conform to requirements documents. Ability to assist in requirements verification of those designs.
• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with technical and nontechnical professionals at all levels.
• Experience with aerospace flight vehicle design.
• Research and analyze data such as customer design proposals specifications and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
• Research plan design and provide guidance to other engineers for mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.
• Analyze design and test products or systems such as instruments controls and mechanical thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems.
• Ability to serve as a GD&T SME for the organization.
• Proficiency in preparing conceptual models and designreview materials. Understanding of mechanical analysis requirements and techniques used for initial sizing and design verification.
• Plan and possibly direct engineering personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems
• Detailoriented and able to perform Peer Reviews of fellow engineers designs and drawings.
• Position may require occasional overtime.
• 20% travel (10 20%) as required to meet critical schedule milestones.
• Ability to obtain US security clearance.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree and minimum 12years of prior mechanical design engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10years of prior mechanical design engineeringexperience. In lieu of a degree minimum of 16years of prior mechanical design engineering experience.
• 5 years of experiencewith basic material selection sheet metal design practices basic machining practices and hardware selection.

Preferred AdditionalSkills:

• Proficiency with PTCs Creo 8.0 or later revision especially with detail part design large assembly management and drawing documentation.
• Proficiency and experience with ASME Y14.51994 and generating detailed documentation of parts assemblies and installations.
• Proficiency in nonconforming material review of root cause / corrective action and disposition instructions.
• Proficiency with handson engineering support of manufacturing.
• Proficiency in design of mechanical ground support equipment and handling procedures / methods.
• Experience in preparation of estimates for design tasks.

• Ability to prepare or lead the preparation of part lists.
• Knowledge of engineering change document preparation and impact assessments.
