CAPIs mission is to guide refugees and immigrants in their journey toward selfdetermination. Key organizational values are rooted in equity inclusion and accessibility. Today we are an inclusive multilingual and immigrantled nonprofit serving new refugees and immigrants including Minnesotas Asian East and West African and Latinx communities as well as underserved US born communities. Over 10000 individuals are served annually across four core service areas of Community Advocacy Refugee Services Economic Empowerment and Civic Engagement.
The responsibility of this position is the overall coordination and operation of CAPIs Food & Nutrition programing. This primarily means the daytoday operation of the Food Shelf through ordering and stocking of food training and supervising of volunteers and connecting with participants to build rapport and relationship. As a part of the Community Advocacy Department this role is highly relational and focuses on connecting with those utilizing the program building rapport with them and getting a deep understanding of their unique life situation to better direct them to supports. Importantly this role will operate as a strong source of connection to the community elevating their stories and voices to inform both programmatic approach within CAPI and policy initiatives outside of.

1. CAPIs Client Choice Food Shelf and Fresh Produce Distributions* 60%
- Closely monitor and secure sufficient purchased and donated food to keep the food shelf stocked and community served
- Packages and distribute
- Physically carry and organize delivered and/or secured food in the food shelf distribution area
- Load and unload pallet boxes up to 50 pounds sort out food and restock.
- Attempt to maintain approximately 2 weeks worth of food stock in the food shelf area
- Provide resources and referrals including and not limited to employment health insurance SNAP benefits for food shelf participants.
- Conduct daily food shelf intakes for CAPIs food shelf participants and complete public benefit applications for food shelf participants such as SNAP and NAPs.
- Accurately and timely utilizes client management system
- Engage in monthly program meeting
- Ensure the food shelf area is physically attractive and operates according to guidelines/codes at all times
- Assist in the facilitation of the Brooklyn Center Farmers Market
- Assist in the management and maintenance of local community garden plots
- Coordinate and oversee multiple fresh produce distributions including purchase of food supplies set up tear down data tracking and data entry and abide by program policies.
- Work to establish partnerships and sponsorships with local businesses and corporations in support of the fresh produce distributions
2. Direct Volunteer/Intern Supports 15%
- Provide a welcoming safe and supportive environment for volunteers and interns to support daily food shelf operations and distributions; interact with volunteers in a professional and friendly manner
- Work with CAPIs Volunteer Coordinator staff member to help onboard and find volunteers and interns for the food shelf and fresh produce distribution
- Provide basic level training and onboarding to volunteers and interns
- Track intern time and performance for reporting to their school
- Prepare and submit school intern reports to their school
- Monitor and direct interns and volunteers in the food shelf area
3. Civic Engagement/Public Policy*20%
- Build relationship and rapport with participants through intentional conversations and listening
- Conduct monthly open Community Connection listening sessions with food shelf participants
- Facilitate group conversation around program improvement and issues the participant and community are facing
- Attend Monthly Food & Nutrition focused policy coalition meeting providing key immigrant and refugee perspectives during Community Connection sessions
- Attend Monthly Public Policy Committee meetings that are conducted internally providing perspectives by informing during Community Connection sessions and update Public Policy team on Food & Nutrition Coalition meeting.
- Assist in mobilizing key Food & Nutrition participants to advocate locally and at the State level for important Public Policy initiatives that will improve and change the Food & Nutrition systems
- Attend and represent CAPI during key Food & Nutrition public policy meetings at local and state levels with officials when possible and as directed by Public Policy team.
- Support CAPIs agencywide Civic Engagement and Public Policy values and initiatives and incorporate civic engagement and Public Policy into routine case management work.
- Participate in voter registration and pledge drives educational/outreach initiatives GOTV activities and Public Policy initiatives.

- Education and Experience
- High School Diploma required twoyear Associate Degree preferred
- Food Shelf experience strongly preferred.
- Case Management strongly preferred.
- Community organizing strongly preferred.
- Customer service experience
- Knowledge of food systems
B. Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations especially immigrant and refugee communities.
- Hmong language fluency strongly preferred
- Ability to demonstrate high degree of professionalism in communication attitude and teamwork with CAPIs
clients staff and management.
- Able to work effectively in a missiondriven agency whose clients and staff exhibit significant diversity with respect to race ethnicity gender orientation socioeconomic status nationality and religion.
- Ability to use & adapt to different technology tools including MS Office programs and
- Ability to produce high quality work with attention to detail and consistent follow
- Ability to exercise sound and rational judgement when assisting all visitors and answering
- Access to reliable transportation
This position is located in an office setting which also serves the community out of the food shelf. The building is accessible and smoke free. This position works during normal business hours and may include evening and/or weekend hours.
Physical requirements:
- Frequently required (up to 57 hours/day) to push/pull/lift up to 50 pounds and operate machines such as pallet

Required Experience:
IC
