Job Description

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Nursing (MSN) ; graduate of a state approved school of nursing required within 12 months
  • RN Registered Nurse Licensure within the State of Florida or MultiState Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC) maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • CPR BLS American Heart Association BLS maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • 35 years Pediatric nursing experience in a hospital setting

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Able to perform Level I II III & IV skills of the clinical nurse.
  • Certified as a professional nurse in area of specialty.
  • Membership within a Nursing Professional Organization specific to unit specialty.
  • Ability to demonstrate evidence of clinical expertise to manage patients with complex medical conditions.
  • Able to deliver engaging informative and wellorganized presentations.
  • Ability to apply principles of evidencebased practice and be a resource for clinical nurses for evidencebased practice.
  • Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients families and coworkers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to interpret adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to problem solve to formulate a plan of care and evaluate the patients response to care.

Job Summary

The Clinical Practice Specialist functions within three spheres of impact; the patient/family clinical nurses/nursing practice and safety/quality outcomes for patients families and staff. Clinical Practice Specialists apply and supervise knowledge of evidencebased practice research and quality improvement methodologies to identify opportunities for process and outcome improvement and implement sustainable practice changes. This role is accountable for working on improving clinical and quality outcomes in collaboration with clinical nurses interprofessional team members and organizational leaders through consultation supervision evaluation and assessment of complex patients individualized needs mentoring and change leadership.

Job Specific Duties

  • Reviews incident reports implements evidencedbased action plans and monitors results to drive efficiencies in clinical and operational excellence.
  • Provides timely mentoring and coaching to clinical staff supervising the quality of nursing care.
  • Leads the supervision and collaborative integration of evidencebased practice into nursing. Identifies gaps in practice and conducts literature reviews to make recommendations for best practice.
  • Develops manuscripts for publication and presents at nursing professional conferences.
  • Demonstrates effective supervision knowledge and application of Quality and Process Improvement principles and methodologies.
  • Keeps abreast of changing national standards of clinical practice and safety science literature. Disseminates pertinent safety and specialty related information and contributes to the development and implementation of best practice guidelines .
  • Identifies and develops clinical measures related to strategic plan for data collection report outcomes.
  • Supervises mentors and engages staff in the development of Evidence Based Practice and research to influence quality of care and improve patient and nursing outcomes.
  • Ensures parent education and diagnosisrelated discharge planning.
  • Coordinates and maintains a portfolio of special stories/events to support Magnet and the nursing annual report.
  • Leads and supervises clinical practice and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Develops criteria for and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice at the individual level. Shares and disseminates information within the department & across the institution. unit and system.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Provides input into relevant clinical policy and procedure development and implementation.
  • Engages in clinical and professional leadership activities such as nursing shared governance hospitalbased committees community regional and/or national organizations and specialtybased program development; promotes customer service excellence by personal example.
  • Role models and promotes awareness and appropriate follow through to quality and/or safety issues; i.e. encourages staff to identify and report adverse events and nearmisses notifies manager/director etc.
  • Designs implements and evaluates mechanisms to collect track and disseminate data and collaborate with medical and nursing staff regarding strategies for performance improvement pertaining to designated indicators.
