JOB PURPOSE:
The Support Attendant is responsible for the supervision of clients/property through regular rounds of inspection.
CHARACTERISTIC JOB DUTIES:
- Makes scheduled rounds of inspections checks safety/security monitors clients/residents and premises; maintains an atmosphere of calm providing an unobtrusive presence
- Understands and is aware of emergency/disaster procedures and follows through
- Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g. police parole urgent situations)
- Coordinates client care relating to security issues; may be directly involved in taking urine samples doing bed checks and room/personal searches
- Reports security problems to appropriate staff.
- Ongoing enforcement of policies which may include client discipline or recommending banning of current or prospective clients
- Meets visitors and directs and accompanies them as necessary; may include contact to resident/client
- May serve as Relief Front Desk Clerk
- Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:
The successful job applicant will have completed High School plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months.
SPECIAL LICENSES DIPLOMAS CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:
- Immunization for Hepatitis B
- Vaccination against Tuberculosis
- WHMIS training
- Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
- Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)
- Mental Health FirstAid
- Motivational Interviewing
- Nonviolent crisis intervention training
MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:
One year of prior related experience including security experience.
PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED:
The performance of the job requires continuously performing walkabouts and occasionally keyboarding and lifting/packing clients belongings.
CONCENTRATION REQUIRED:
The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment interacting with clients and occasionally recording information and monitoring security cameras.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL RESOURCES:
The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly or on a relief basis or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend disburse or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMAN RESOURCES:
The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The incumbents work environment is typically in a shelter and/or in Treatment facilities/grounds.
The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:
- Isolation
- Monotony
- Dealing with angry people
- Verbal abuse
- Work schedule affecting lifestyle
EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS:
The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of moderate to severe injury or illnesses due to:
- Physical attacks by others
- Exposure to infectious diseases
- Exposure to bodily fluids
- Sharp objects
- Other dangerous situations
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:
The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):
- Universal Precautions
- Vaccination against Tuberculosis
- Mental Health First Aid
HOURS OF WORK:
Shifts: 8:00am to 4:00pm 4:00pm to 12midnite 12midnite to 8:00am
Shifts are 8.0 hours of paid time On Call / 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $28.30 to $28.68 with a maximum of $29.05.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
