Position purpose: Reporting to the Supervisor of Academic Services the incumbent plans implements and evaluates various initiatives aimed at student retention success and development to support student academic success and ensure the quality of their experience at the Faculty of Health Sciences. Manages the Mentoring Centres physical and material resources while ensuring their activities enhance student experience and success.

In this role your responsibilities will include:

  • 1. Develops and implements strategies and programs to promote a highquality student experience. Designs and implements strategies and tools to facilitate integration into university life to increase undergraduate students sense of belonging and academic success.

  • informs and educates students on all aspects of their academic progress career choices and university experience ensuring their needs are identified and their academic success maximized.

  • as a liaison between the Faculty and students to address their concerns and provide them with the tools they need to succeed.

  • collaboration with retention and progression specialists assesses the situation of atrisk students identifies problems and meets with students to establish an action and followup plan offering advice and coaching activities to maximize their success.

  • students with emotional financial legal medical or other problems and refers them to the appropriate resources to support their academic success.

  • 6. Coordinates the management of all Mentoring Centre activities including the allocation of physical and material resources the distribution of work the implementation of work methods and the management of web site content to offer a high quality support service to students.

  • 7. Develops and implements a series of seminars (e.g. study groups workshops Mentoring Centre promotional activities) designed to facilitate the integration of firstyear students and increase academic success.

  • 8. Acts as a resource person for the staff at the Centre Faculty and SASS regarding student challenges.

  • in activities to promote the Facultys programs and services to a varied audience: prospective students parents guidance counsellors members of the university community and the general public in order to raise the Facultys profile and contribute to enrolment growth.

  • collaboration with the Finance team plans and monitors the operating budget for student experience projects and initiatives to ensure optimal use of resources.

  • and reviews data on use of Mentoring Centre services satisfaction with services received and analysis and evaluation of retention projects. Prepare and write reports.

What you will bring:

Bachelors degree in education or a university degree in a related field
Experience in the field of education or as an academic advisor or a combination of both
Indepth knowledge of postsecondary education programs normally acquired through a university degree or equivalent experience
Education or experience with training and teaching methods
Knowledge of university curricula regulations and administrative processes
Demonstrated experience in mentoring at university level or equivalent
Experience in communicating with a variety of clienteles (students parents professors administrative staff management community members) both orally and in writing using consultation analysis and feedback)
Bilingual French and English (oral and written)
Flexible schedule that allows for occasional work for early morning evening and weekend events

Bilingualism: French and English (spoken and written); to be considered for this position candidates must be rated at the Low Advanced proficiency level or higher for both oral comprehension and reading comprehension in their second official language. The rating is determined by a proficiency test designed by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute.

Prior to May 1 2022 the University required all students faculty staff and visitors (including contractors) to be fully vaccinated against Covid19 as defined in Policy 129 Covid19 Vaccination.
