QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree in the social sciences or a related field (a masters degree is preferred)
- Strong writing and verbal communications skills
- Strong computer skills with a particular emphasis on Microsoft Office Suite applications Internet search engines GuideStar Google analytics and the Foundation Center Directory
- Ability to compile analyze and synthesize program service data for proposals solicitation letters reports Power Point presentations and other documents
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and interact with staff members throughout the organization without regard to title
- Knowledge of fundraising devices including proposals inquiry letters letters of intent online portals and applications that use Google or Survey Monkey templates
- Must be able to meet deadlines and follow the guidelines of funding sources as well as instructions from the development director executive director and other senior staff
- Ability to work with other staff within the development office and staff members throughout BronxWorks in particular those who head departments of supervise programs
HELPFUL ATTRIBUTES:

- Familiarity with issues affecting lowincome Bronx communities in particular those with large concentrations of immigrants and other marginalized populations
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Proposal and Report Writing
- Under the supervision of the development director and in consultation with the executive director and other staff the candidate will write fundings proposals to foundations corporations and funding federations using the Common Application Form online portals or other formats.
- Under the supervision of the development director and in consultation with the executive director and other staff the candidate will write funding interim progress and final reports to foundations corporations and funding federations (i.e. the United Way) using the Common Reporting Form online portals or other formats.
- In consultation with the development director and the executive director the candidate will edit drafts of proposals primarily prepared by program staff to ensure consistency with funder requirements as per a request for proposals (RFP) request for qualifications (RFQ) requests for applications (RFAs) requests for expressions of interest (RFEIs) notice of funds available (NOFA) or other funding announcements.
- In consultation with the development director the executive director and other BronxWorks staff the candidate will oversee the compilation and writing of largescale proposals to government agencies (i.e. the New York City Department of Homeless Services the Department for the Aging the New York City Department of Youth & Community Development and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services).
Portal Maintenance and Application Submission
- The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that BronxWorks is current with respect to all the documentation requirements for government portals including eRA Commons the Grants Gateway the HHS Accelerator and PASSPort.
- The candidate will have primary responsibility for the uploading of applications for government funding using various portals.
- The candidate will ensure that application documents are uploaded to portals using the appropriate formats (i.e. PDFs Word or Excel documents or other formats deemed appropriate by a given funder).
- Where necessary the candidate will confer with tech support staff regarding issues related to portal uploads the confirmation of materials transmitted and other portalrelated issues that may arise.
Discretionary Funding Applications
- The candidate will oversee the preparation and submission of New York City Council member item and special initiative funding applications.
- The candidate will maintain a spreadsheet related to City Council member item applications submitted and funded preparing reports for use by the executive director development director and other staff as required.
- In consultation with the executive director the development director and other senior staff the candidate will prepare and submit discretionary funding requests to members of the New York State Assembly and the New York State Senate.
- In consultation with the executive director the development director and other senior staff the candidate will prepare and submit Congressional Community Funding applications to the offices of members of the US House of Representatives who serve the Bronx.
- The candidate will maintain detailed spreadsheets regarding state discretionary and federal Community Funding applications providing reports to the executive director the development director and other senior staff as required.
PowerPoint Presentations
- In conjunction with the executive director the development director the digital media manager and others the candidate may assist with the development of the annual PowerPoint presentation on organization accomplishments.
- At the request of the executive director the development director the director for advancement or in conjunction with other staff the candidate may develop PowerPoint presentations for other activities including reports to the full board or board committees.
Institutional Donor Research
- The candidate will be responsible for the identification of public or private institutional funding sources for priority program service and administrative areas using the search service of the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee the Foundation Center Directory GuideStar websites and other materials.
- Where appropriate the candidate will develop summary profiles of prospective funding sources for review and use by the executive director development director or other staff.
- The candidate will regularly review the city state and federal government portals as well as the websites of selected government agencies (i.e. the New York City Department of Youth & Community Development the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and the US Department of Homeland Security) to identify funding opportunities.
Letter Writing
- The candidate will be responsible for the preparation of inquiry letters to prospective funding sources for priority program service and administrative areas.
- The candidate will be responsible for the preparation of thank you letters to institutional donors for inkind or cash donations.
Interface with Current or Prospective Funding Sources the BronxWorks Boardand its Fund Development Committee
- The candidate will assist the development director and the executive director with the preparation of background materials for presentation to or meetings with the BronxWorks board its Fund Development Committee the Program Committee or other board standing committees as requested.
- The candidate will assist the development director and the executive director with the preparation of materials to be used for site visits by foundations corporations funding federations or other institutional funders.
- The candidate will prepare highlights from selected board Fund Development Committee or current or prospective donor site visits.
Other Duties
- The candidate may perform other duties as required by the board executive director the development director the director of advancement or other senior level staff.
