SCOPE
South Bronx United (SBU) is seeking enthusiastic and caring individuals with a passion for youth and community development to serve as a Development & Volunteer Engagement Associate through the AmeriCorps program. The Development Associate will support SBU with fundraising volunteer engagement and community outreach efforts. The Associates primary responsibilities will include: assisting with the planning and implementation of the Annual Benefit and other special events and campaigns; assisting with management of the donor database and donor management systems; coordinating corporate engagement events and opportunities; facilitate volunteer recruitment and outreach opportunities and events; and increasing awareness through community events and outreach. This role will report to the Senior Development Coordinator and the Volunteer Programs Manager and other organization staff.
To raise more than $2 million annually the Associate will join a team that works alongside SBUs Executive Director. The Development and Communications Associate will assist in crucial capacity building efforts that will enable the organization to continue to grow its size and impact. The individual in this role must be a strong communicator organized and detail oriented and passionate about the mission and community. VISTAs will also have the opportunity to pursue interests in different departments of the organization and tailor your year to be more focused on your goals!
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The VISTA at South Bronx United will be part of the Up2Us Sports VISTA nationwide cohort of 75 members. The Up2Us Sports VISTA placed at SBU will increase the financial and inkind resources received by the organization allowing it to deliver crucial programs and services and an outsized community impact.
The VISTA will:
(1) Implement fundraising activities that support the overall fundraising efforts growth of revenue and subsequent increase in organization capacity
(2) Implement systems to support the growth of the SBU Annual Benefit and other special events
(3) Administer a data management system to provide critical capacity in data collection and analysis for the organizations program and development effort
(4) Support the recruitment and engagement of volunteers
(5) Engage in volunteer and community outreach activities and events.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors Degree highly preferred
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals
Effective in multicultural and crosscultural settings and understanding of individuals of all backgrounds
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and with a developing nonprofit organization
Flexible and adaptable to work in a variety of settings
Strong administrative computer and writing skills.
Proficiency with email Google documents and Microsoft Office
Punctual and teamoriented
(Preferred) Experience in youth development
(Preferred) Experience working with lowincome atrisk or immigrant communities
SCHEDULE
The term of service runs one year starting in August/September mid July. This is a fulltime position.
COMPENSATION
A living stipend of approximately $29123 for twelve months (exact amounts according to Corporate for National and Community Services AmeriCorps VISTA rates and Up2Us contract)
An educational award of $6895 that can be used on student loans or future educational expenses is provided upon successful completion of the 12 month service term
