The Office of Student Services (OSS) is responsible for providing a variety of supports and services to students in Cambridge Public Schools (CPS). Our programs are dedicated to ensuring equitable access and success for students with disabilities and students who have advanced learning needs. The Office of Student Services is comprised of special education 504 services and the office of advanced learning.
The Role:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Demonstrate the ability to implement specialized reading approaches
- Provide explicit instruction to students using systematic structured and multisensory reading language arts and math approaches to students who have been diagnosed with significant specific learning disabilities
- Knowledge of relevant subject matter in Common Core for Math Science Language Arts History and Social Studies
- Assess student learning monitor students understanding of the curriculum and adjust instruction appropriately
- Ability to differentiate instruction
- Plan lessons based on needs of student
- Monitor goals and objectives of IEP
- Administer and interpret formal and informal education assessments and prepare a written report and recommendations
- Preparation implementation and evaluation of IEPs and all other related documentation
- Develop progress reports that are distributed to the parents with the students; report cards
- Demonstrate ability to consult collaborate and work with a multidisciplinary team consisting of special education and general education staff
- Consult and collaborate with general education teachers and staff in order to access integration opportunities for students
- Maintain appropriate standards of behavior mutual respect and safety
- Design or modification of curriculum instruction and assessment for students with moderate disabilities
- Knowledge of basic testing procedures and assessment of students with learning disabilities
- Provide multiple access points and scaffolding within instruction and assessments for a wide range of learners
- Appropriate use of augmentative communication and other assistive technologies
- Develop inclusive opportunities and collaborate with general education teachers as student access data allows
- Willingness to pursue training in areas deemed necessary to meet job requirements as requested by Office of Student Services
- Carry out other related duties as may be designated
Your Skill Set:
As the incoming Teacher Learning Disability Academicsyou will possess many though perhaps not all of the following characteristics and qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in Special Education required.
- Massachusetts Certification: Moderate Special Needs PreK8 required.
- Knowledge of theories of language development and effects of disabilities on learning.
- Design or modification of curriculum instruction and assessment for students with moderate disabilities.
- Trained in basic testing procedures and assessment of learning disabled students (WJ4 GORT4Keymath etc.).
- Ability to chair meetings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching in an urban multicultural school system with inclusionary practices is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of Federal and State Laws pertaining to Special Education; Preparation implementation and evaluation of IEPs.
- Techniques for developing skills designed to facilitate placement in least restrictive environment.
- Specialized Reading Certification in OrtonGillingham Method.
