Job Description

The Agency Youll Join

The New York City Mayors Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five
boroughs coordinating public agencies and departments and managing public property. New York
City Mayor Eric Adams is head of the executive branch of New York Citys government. Previously
Mayor Adams has served the people of New York City as an NYPD officer state senator and Brooklyn
borough president. The Adams administration is leading the fight to serve the people of the greatest

resources for communities to come together and answer the call to serve NYC. We envision a city

The strategic initiatives director at NYC Service will play a critical role in ensuring crosssector
collaborations are coordinated effective and impactful between NYC Service and our NYC
communities and stakeholders. Supporting the Chief of Staff/Communications portfolio the director
will be a crossfunctional member of the NYC Service team coordinating efforts toward our vision of
building a culture of service in New York City. Through partnerships collaboration and research informed strategic initiatives the director will play a pivotal role in supporting the office to bring the
public private and nonprofit sectors together to support NYC issues through service. This role will
focus on coordinating workstreams and weaving external partners into opportunities.

The director will collaborate and work closely across teams at NYC Service coordinating between the
intergovernmental community engagement national service and communications teams and aligning
teams in carrying out these activities. The director will report to the chief of staff and communications.

Key responsibilities include the following:
Stakeholder Management Partnership In conjunction with and in support of leadership
conceptualize and execute public private and community relations strategies and events that
help to advance NYC Services mission:
o Ensure the development of robust service partnerships between private community
and governmental partners
o Strategize and develop plans to increase community voice in NYC Service and the City of
New York programming and build external partner support of office initiatives
CrossSector Collaborations Project Management Manage and execute effective practices
to plan efficiently deliver and evaluate all strategic priorities including outreach to internal
city agency stakeholders and external partners such as publicsector or private partners as
well as new initiatives such as those developed through the Service Advisory Council
o Coordinates internal and external stakeholders to produce crosssector service
convenings including Womens Day Mentoring Businesses in Service convenings
National Service Leadership Council meetings Mayoral Service Recognition Ceremony
and nonprofit convenings.
o Support the creation and execution of advocacy tools such as emails and social media.
Interagency Intergovernmental Coordination Initiate and coordinate interagency and
intergovernmental initiatives that increase overall collaboration with and awareness of NYC
Service.
o Support the development and maintenance of strong positive collaborative
relationships with elected officials including organizing and attending meetings or
events with elected and their staff as well as representatives of state and national
advocacy organizations
o Support the internal government relations team in a variety of capacities including
policy research and analysis state and federal legislative tracking and developing
advocacy and communication tools
o Work with internal stakeholders and others in the mayoral administration to craft the
organizations legislative agenda
Policy Research Analysis Lead research on key areas of interest related to service and civic
engagement to identify trends and analysis in support of project goals. Support data collection
and management with teams to develop communications for stakeholders and interagency
partners.
o Support grant proposals and reports.
o Provide critical analysis of proposed policies that might affect cities or partners
Advance NYC Service mission values and goals
Liaise and represent NYC Service at internal and external meetings as well as NYC Service allstaff events as directed
Be available on select weekends and evenings as/if needed
Support City initiatives as needed including but not limited to possible emergency response
(e.g. evacuation shelters etc.)

About You

You have a Bachelors Degree preferred; a High School Diploma or GED considered with
significant (57 years or more) of previous relevant experience.
You must believe in the power of service and experience volunteering or with AmeriCorps
highly preferred.
You have excellent written editing and verbal communication skills with the ability to present
information clearly to a variety of stakeholders and audiences.
You must have experience leading event planning and execution as well as running meetings
with highlevel stakeholders.
You are a thorough organized detailoriented individual with a keen ability to prioritize and
manage against goals and who can find creative solutions to challenges.
You are a team player with excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to relate to and
provide support for internal staff and external partners and being able to maintain tact in a
variety of environments.
You are a selfstarter with a strong work ethic and a flexible work style in a fastpaced
environment.
You are a confident take charge individual who doesnt get flustered when faced with
challenges no matter how big or small.
You have excellent computer skills with proficiency in a variety of programs including MS Word
MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.

Qualifications :

A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and three years satisfactory fulltime experience related to the projects and policies to be studied in the particular position.
