Job Overview
A fulltime Clinical Pharmacist is needed to provide services within the U.S. Army Medical Command Regional Health Command Europe and other Department of Defense (DoD) agencies including the US Navy and US Air Forces in Europe.
Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelorss or Doctoral degree in Pharmacy from a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE).
- Board certification in one or more of the pharmacy specialties recognized by the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties; or Completion of a clinical pharmacy residency or fellowship accredited by the American Society of HealthSystem Pharmacists or American College of Clinical Pharmacy; or Documentation of appropriate education training and/or Continuing Medical Education (CME) in the practice of clinical pharmacy.
- Experience: Three (3) years of retail hospital or military pharmacy experience with 12 months of experience within the last three (3) years. You shall possess working knowledge of computers specifically the internet Microsoft Word Microsoft Access Microsoft Excel and Windows Operating System.
- Certifications: A current valid unrestricted license to practice Pharmacy in any one of the fifty States the
- District of Columbia the Commonwealths of Puerto Rico Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
- certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) by the American Heart Association and/or the Red Crossapproved training program prior to the contract start date.
- Public Health clearance is required: immunization records and physical health certification with their proposal. The records must show proof of immunization against Hepatitis A and B Measles Mumps Rubella Varicella and Influenza. Proof of negative TB skin test taken within the past 12 months. If the TB test was positive submit proof of negative chest xray within the past 12 months.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assessing patients response to drug therapy and planning drug therapy based on physicianestablished diagnoses.
- Ordering and evaluating laboratory tests necessary to evaluate drug therapy effects and outcomes.
- Initiating modifying or discontinuing medications for ongoing therapy of chronic disease states (e.g. hypertension hyperlipidemia anticoagulant diabetes asthma refill clinics etc.) in cooperation with the medical staff.
- Monitoring and managing pharmacotherapy require periodic adjustment due to specific or changing pharmacokinetic characteristics (e.g. aminoglycosides phenytoin antithrombotic).
- Initiating or modifying drug therapy for minor acute conditions such as colds rashes and allergies.
- Administering prescription or nonprescription drugs according to established agreements or protocols in a timely manner.
- Assessing metabolic needs and ordering therapeutic enteral or parenteral nutrition products in the inpatient setting.
- Evaluating medical and medication histories for drugrelated problems and adjusting drug therapy accordingly.
- Consulting with other healthcare providers (e.g. physicians dietitians nurses physical therapists etc.) about patient treatment needs or options.
- Review patient profiles at the time of dispensing in order to closely monitor medication therapy.
- Ensure prescription directions for use dose medication interactions therapeutic duplications or overlaps allergy information agespecific dosage and other pertinent data are appropriate for individual patients. Intervention with providers shall be made for noted discrepancies of the abovelisted items.
- Compound medications as required.
- Work closely with clinical staff in developing patient wellness programs such as smoking cessation programs and asthma classes.
- Supervise inventory control of all pharmaceuticals in the pharmacy especially scheduled pharmaceuticals and ensure pharmacy security. Maintain appropriate records and security of all scheduled controlled substances according to applicable regulations.
- Facilitate medical staff drug utilization reviews (DURs) as deemed necessary.
DOCPER/SOFA/Logistical Support Status
This position is eligible for support under NATO Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) supplemental agreement articles 72 or 73.
