Job Description

We invite applications for the temporary position of:

  • 1.0 FTE Grades 812 Lifeskills Support Teacher
  • Located at Inclusive Education

The Lifeskills Support Teacher (Low Incidence) will work as a member of the Inclusive Education team to support students with low incidence challenges and Learning Support Teachers classroom Teachers program Teachers Education Assistants the District Low Incidence Team and parent/guardian(s).

Education/Coursework requirements:

  • Degree in Special Education (i.e. postsecondary degree or diploma program with special education concentration).
  • Completed coursework designed to meet the diverse needs of exceptional learners in the areas of students with special needs learning disabilities strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Minimum 35 years recent teaching experience K12.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Working knowledge supported by course work and experience of the special needs arising from autism spectrum disorder moderate to profound intellectual disabilities chronic health impairment and students with dependent handicaps.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of both elementary and secondary curriculum and the ability to support teachers on how to adapt and modify curriculum for their students.
  • Ability to design and implement programs to meet specific student needs.
  • Ability to develop and instruct functional and lifeskills curriculum including independent living and employment readiness skills.
  • Ability to plan and implement social communication and executive functioning programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with school administrators teachers parents and community professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and liaise with parent/guardian(s) community partners and the Student Services Low Incidence Team.
  • Ability to assume a leadership role with both teachers and paraprofessional staff and to provide training and problemsolving support.
  • Knowledge and ability to implement computer programs with special education technology to support student achievement.
