the position of

Temporary K6 Curriculum & Assessment Learning Coach 1.0 FTE (one year with a possibility of extension)

  1. St. Thomas Aquinas Roman (STAR) Catholic Schools is a Catholic school authority in central Alberta operating K12 schools in Leduc Beaumont Drayton Valley Wetaskiwin Ponoka and Lacombe. With a student population of approximately 4500 and a commitment to faithbased highquality education STAR Catholic is a dynamic and growing division.

    Position:
    STAR Catholic is seeking a Division Curriculum & Assessment Learning Coach with a specific focus on Kindergarten to Grade 6. This role supports the implementation of STAR Catholics Education Plans domains and goals to work collaboratively with teachers on embedding best pedagogical and assessment practices into planning and teaching. This is a temporary position with a negotiable start date of August 25 2025 and an end date of June 26 2026.


    The Learning Coach will:


    Curriculum & Assessment (K6 Focus)

      Collaborate with K6 teachers to design highquality outcomesbased learning plans aligned with the new Alberta curriculum.

        Promote sound assessment practices that support learning (assessment for of and as learning) with attention to differentiation and inclusive education.

          Facilitatedatainformed instructional planning using formative and summative student achievement data.

          Model effective teaching strategies and lead jobembedded professional development.

            Support teachers in developing longrange and unit plans that reflect the progression of learning and achievement indicators.

              Coordinate peer collaboration and teachertoteacher learning opportunities

              Provide coaching on researchinformed practices that align with Alberta Educations vision for curriculum and assessment excellence.

              Literacy & Numeracy Leadership

                Deliver professional learning that equips teachers with practical strategies for classroom application.

                Lead schoolbased and divisionwide initiatives to improve student achievement in literacy and numeracy.

                Create and guide the implementation of data collection protocols (including screeners and diagnostics).

                Monitor literacy and numeracy interventions across the division and track student growth over time.

                Collaboratively develop and continue to support a K6 literacy and numeracy framework.

                Support alignment between classroom instruction division assessments and Albertas Literacy Numeracy and Competency Progressions.

                Technology Integration

                Support the integration of instructional technology into teaching and learning practices in K6 classrooms.

                Provide training and mentorship on digital tools and platforms (e.g. PowerSchool Google Workspace Artificial Intelligence).

                Stay informed of innovations in educational technology and guide staff in applying them effectively.

                Ideal Candidates Will Demonstrate :

                  A strong personal commitment to the mission of Catholic education modeling Gospel values and fostering the spiritual moral and social development of students and colleagues.

                    The ability to integrate Catholic teachings into instructional coaching and curriculum support nurturing a faithfilled learning environment rooted in the dignity of the human person.

                      Deep knowledge of K6 pedagogy and Alberta Educations curriculum and assessment frameworks with the ability to translate this into practical classroom support.

                        A collaborative growthoriented approach to professional learning instructional leadership and teacher mentorship.

                          Proficiency in data analysis to inform instruction support intervention planning and improve student outcomes.

                            Strong communication organizational and interpersonal skills with the flexibility to thrive in a variety of school contexts.


                            A valid Alberta Teaching Certificate is required. Compensation will be in accordance with the current Collective Agreement.

                            French language skills would be considered an asset.
