KASK & Conservatory offers a place for free artistic research embedded in a local national and international context. Researchers from different disciplines work out their research process there in critical dialogue with the world.
The research infrastructure constitutes important working and meeting places for researchers teachers and students. This infrastructure offers the possibility of setting up collective projects and experiments.
The OPlab is a lab within KASK & Conservatory that focuses on digitizing analog (image) material. As OPlab coordinator (20%) you are responsible for the smooth running of the lab. You support both researchers and students in digitizing archiving organizing and converting old media (with a focus on film and video). You work with 8mm and 16mm scanners as well as with players for various video formats. The coordinator assists the creative processes of researchers and students. The lab can also be used to provide services for external projects. The lab is located in the campus Bijloke
Duties and responsibilities
- You will be responsible for the supervision and daily operation of the OPlab.
- You will manage control and maintain the labs technical equipment.
- You independently digitize imagery.
- You follow developments and trends in the field of film archiving. You offer students researchers and teachers technical support and advice on digitization of visual material. You guide them to learn to use the infrastructure independently.
- You are responsible for the safety and maintenance of the lab. You will ensure that students and colleagues can work in a safe and clean environment that is adequately adapted to the needs standards and regulations and take action if safety and wellbeing are compromised.
- You will actively seek out projects in which the OPlab can participate.
- You build positive working relationships with your colleagues.
- You adapt within your position to changes in assignments and working conditions. In this way you meet possible changing circumstances and assignments within the OPlab.
Profile
- You have relevant experience in the technical support of digitization of footage (film and video) and are uptodate with knowledge and developments within the field.
- You have uptodate knowledge of the various analog video formats digital export formats and digital archiving.
- You have experience with the Film Factory HDS scanner or similar devices.
- You master technical knowhow about old and often obsolete techniques formats and machines.
- You are helpful establish contacts easily and are willing to work with external partners
- You are practical minded and can fix technical defects yourself.
- You have knowledge of safety regulations in handling the materials and machines
- You communicate clearly both in writing and orally in Dutch and English
- You have didactic qualities to provide technical support and explanations on the use of materials and machines.
- You have good organizational skills to ensure the smooth operation of the OPlab.
- You have a solutionoriented attitude and are willing to retrain as needed.
- You promote respectful and inclusive collaborations. You can build positive working relationships with students externals and your colleagues within the departments and services of the deanery.
- You are flexible and adaptable within your position to changes in assignments and working conditions.
- You show positive involvement in the pedagogical project and research of KASK & Conservatory in particular and the HOGENT in general.
Offer
We are offering a parttime (20%) fixedterm contractual recruitment with employment starting at the earliest from 1/09/2025 for the duration of one year. After one year your contract can be additionally extended based on a positive evaluation.
Your compensation as an OPlab Coordinator (Class B) is based on demonstrated relevant work experience.

- You hold at least a bachelors or graduate degree or equivalent.
