Job Description

Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multistep progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

Thefundamental reason this classification exists is to perform advancedprofessional and supervisory engineering work providing technical expertise indesign development construction inspection and implementation. The Civil Engineer III class isdistinguished from the Civil Engineer II by the additional experience requiredgreater complexity of assignments the level of professional knowledge requiredand the responsibility for advising assisting or supervising lower levelprofessional and technical employees. Work is performed with considerableindependence of judgment and initiative and is reviewed by the CityEngineer for adherence to policies procedures and for program results. The work responsibilities are: supervisestwo or more fulltime employees; supervises as project engineer andparticipates in a variety of complex engineering duties associated with thelocation design and construction of public works projects and providesassistance and advice to civil engineers and other engineering staff in a leadcapacity. Reports to the City Engineer.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from a fouryear engineeringprogram approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology(ABET). Registration as a ProfessionalEngineer in the State of Alabamaor have comparable standing in another state and able to obtain reciprocitywithin six months. Five years ofprogressively responsible professional civil engineering experience. Must possess and maintain Professional Engineerregistration in the State of Alabama. Must possess or be willing to obtain aFlood Plain Managers Certificate.

NOTE: Qualifying education training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Alabama Drivers License and an insurable driving record as needed to operate a City vehicle in the performance of work tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors and outdoors and exposes the employee to hazards of construction sites including dangers of moving heavy equipment inclement weather conditions and high noise levels. Work requires regular physical activities such as walking crawling standing stooping bending and operation of a motor vehicle.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Engineering Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application. For this reason applicants are urged to fill in the application form completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held the dates they held them where and exactly what their duties were if more than five qualified applications are received the supplemental questionnaire will be used to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken. if there are five or less qualified applicants they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
