DESCRIPTION:Special Education Teacher for students grades K5 in an alternate program setting. The teacher is responsible for IEPs for students on their caseload; academic assessments progress reporting and communication with parents about student progress. Provide individualized programs for students ages 511 with mild to moderate disabilities in academic and functional life skills. Attend MDT IEP building and district meetings and conferences as required. Assist in supervision of multiple paraeducator staff members.Other related duties.
QUALIFICATIONS:Valid Washington state teaching certificate with a Special Education endorsement required or ability to obtain endorsement within 2 years. Experience with writing and following the IEP and helping general education staff to design and implement differentiated programming in the core content areas. Experience teacher working with special education children; ability to work well with a team of adults develop lesson plans for students supervise adult support to followthrough with plans and work with other teaching staff to meet the needs of students. Must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written; able to participate as part of contributing team member. Works well with students with a variety of behavior and adaptive needs. Has experience teaching functional life skills and academics. Proven ability for organization and meeting timelines. Knowledge of Special Education rules (state and federal). Positive attitude and a love for working with students with differing ability levels. May require prolonged sitting or standing. Attendance and punctuality are important functions for this position.
