Job Description

Hello Neighbor is seeking a Study Buddy Summer Counselor to facilitate the delivery of Hello
Neighbors Study Buddy Summer Program in collaboration with Pittsburgh Public Schools. The
Summer Program offers curriculumbased virtual instruction for academic support and
engaging supplemental outing opportunities to selected Afghan and Ukrainian high school
students in the Pittsburgh Public Schools District.

The Study Buddy Program groups students with a paid instructor who will provide online
sessions to support the students academic and social growth. Counselors facilitate the group
sessions for all instructors and students lead program field trips and ensure the environment is
welcoming and positive for students and instructors.

Founded in 2017 Hello Neighbor works to improve the lives of recently resettled refugee
families by matching them with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them in their new
home. Weve expanded from our mentorship program to now include refugee resettlement
services family service programs a national program supporting other refugee and immigrant
nonprofits around the country.

This is a limitedterm parttime nonexempt seasonal summer position. The counselor will work
a hybrid inperson/remote schedule which includes six weeks of virtual Study Buddy learning
sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays five inperson field trips and additional meetings each
week to connect with the Program Manager and other Counselors for support and to complete
administrative tasks. Additionally the Counselor will be expected to attend the training for
instructors and the intake and orientation for students prior to the sixweek programming.

Requirements:

    • A valid drivers license and proof of insurance are required the use of a personal vehicle is optional but preferred
    • We require COVID19 vaccination and a booster for fulltime employees.
    • The successful candidate must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
    • Candidates must submit their clearances which will include: Government Watch List Search (OFAC) DOJ Sex Offender PA County Criminal Search (Act 34) Neglect/ Abuse Registry Pennsylvania
    • Mandatory Reporter training may also be required depending on job requirements

    • Reports To: Study Buddy Program Manager

Key Responsibilities:

    • Participates in meetings and collaborates with the Study Buddy Program Manager and Lead Counselor
    • Assists with training of instructors and supports their competency for the curriculum
    • Supports with the program intakes orientation and close out for students
    • Leads in giving announcements connecting with students and instructors through community building activities and icebreakers creating a fun and engaging virtual learning environment
    • Covers sessions as needed when an instructor is absent
    • Communicates with students instructors and families by providing session reminders
    • and other relevant messages as needed
    • Attends and assists in leading all inperson field trips and activities
    • Assists in addressing student and instructor concerns elevating any serious issues
    • appropriately to the Study Buddy Lead Counselor or Program Manager
    • Addresses technology issues for students and instructors
    • Collects and organizes data including daily attendance and other necessary reporting
    • Attends relevant Study Buddy and Hello Neighbor meetings
    • Helps coordinate distribution of loaner Chromebooks to students (if necessary)
    • Adheres to Hello Neighbors confidentiality guidelines and ensures the appropriate handling of sensitive information
    • Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bilingual or multilingual in priority language preferred (Dari Pashto or Ukrainian)
    • High school graduate or GED
    • Qualified adult 18 years or older
    • Meets academic standards for teaching and demonstrates ability to provide effective tailored solutions and support to help students reach their academic potential
    • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills characterized by compassionate courteous cordial and professional interactions with diverse colleagues program members and the community
    • Able to cultivate excellent relationships with clients staff and partners
    • Digital literacy and the ability to learn new software
    • Effective collaboration with others through cooperative efforts
    • Willingness to work in a fastpaced multicultural environment
    • Alignment with and support of Hello Neighbors core values

Additional Details:

    • This is a limitedterm parttime nonexempt hybrid position at our Pittsburgh office in the Larimer neighborhood
    • The successful candidate must be currently authorized to work in the United States
    • Clearances are required (See Requirements list above)
    • We require COVID19 vaccination and a booster for fulltime employees
    • Selected candidates will be invited to interview on a rolling basis
    • Anticipated start date is June 16 2025
    • Hourly Rate: $15/hour 15 hours/week
    • This role is seasonal and will end August 22 2025
