Job Title : Nurse Practitioner Specialty Job Summary :
- To provide nursing medical care for high acuity patients in collaboration with a physician.
Experience Education Training Special Skills and Licensure :
- Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
- Masters degree in Nursing
- First Assist Certificate Required
- BLS Certification;Current LA state RN license from LSBN;Current LA Advanced Practice license from LSBN;Certification in an Advanced Practice role by one of the national organizations listed by Louisiana State Board of Nursing: AANP/ AACN/ AMCB/ ANCC/ NBCRNA/ NCC OR PNCB
Job Function :
- Patient Care
- Provides direct patient care management to high acuity patients including performing histories and physicals admitsand discharges; related to the care of specialty patients focusing on the maintenace achievement and restoration of optimal functions of patients.
- The NP will also visit patients prior to surgery conduct discharge teaching afterward and prescribe medications including narcotics.
- Partnership and Collaboration
- Plans implements and evaluates nursing medical care consistent with medical treatment and care in collaboration with a physician. Additionally the practitioner will initiate or modify medical treatment within an established plan of medical protocol.
- The NP will assist with consults write orders coordinate with consulting physicians and accompany physicians on rounds. The NP will analyze clinical data; order and/or perform necessary diagnostic tests or procedures; develop implement and evaluate the therapeutic regimen.
- Quality
- The NP will teach and provide support for patients and their families; minimize fragmentation by providing coordination of care; manage transition of the patient to stepdown units or to outpatient settings; and serve as patient advocates.
- Other Duties As Assigned
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
- Criteria for Hospital Setting Nurse Practitioner:Patients of this role are of higher acuity in a specialized area This role involves being on call; This role involves hospital rounds; This role would be involved in assisting MDs with procedures (in clinic and/or hospital)
