About the position
The Faculty of Adventure Studies Culinary Arts and Tourism Management (FACT) at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) invites applications for a fulltime Limited Term position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor in the Culinary Arts Department. This is a bipartite position with a preferred starting date of August 1st 2025. The position based on the Kamloops campus involves teaching (including the scholarship of teaching and learning) structured handson instruction and a commitment to various forms of services.
Thompson Rivers University campuses are on the traditional lands of the Tkemlps te Secwpemc (Kamloops campus) and the Texelc (Williams Lake campus) within Secwpemculucw the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwpemc people. Our region also extends into the territories of the Statimc Nlakapamux Nuxalk Tsilhqotin Dakelh and Mtis is within these unceded territories we would welcome a new faculty member who has an understanding of and commitment to decolonization.
The successful candidate will join a dedicated team focused on creating innovative experiences and opportunities for student development and the advancement of our department and program. The candidate must be prepared to eventually assume a leadership role within the department work independently and serve as a role model who provides mentorship to students. A studentcentered approach to teaching and learning coupled with leadership values that keep the program vibrant is essential.
The ideal candidate will be a lifelong learner with exceptional communication organizational administrative and culinary skills enabling effective collaboration with both fulltime and parttime faculty in a challenging environment. They should demonstrate a commitment to leading the department have a vision for developing and growing programming and work collaboratively to position the department for success.
The successful candidate should exhibit strong administrative abilities and understand that classroom activities will not be their primary focus. Their role will involve interacting with other departments administrators and faculty to develop and provide opportunities for growth while fostering an excellent experience for students. Emphasis should be placed on the holistic development of the department for overall success rather than on individual pathways.
The role includesevaluating student progress and facilitating student achievement. Providing ongoing support guidance and advice to learners and liaising with relevant industry sectors to promote engagement with program participants is a studentcentered instructor you willbe able to instruct all levels of the Professional Cook programs culinary diploma level courses and successfully instruct a combination of practical and theorybased classroom knowledge of all cooking methods and styles practiced in leading food service establishments is required. Clear and concise understanding of safe and hygienic food handling practices is imperative. Sound skills in classical and contemporary plate presentation as well as cold and hot food production are literacy and competence with online delivery is expected. Successful candidates must provide proof of qualifications.

Pay Band & Benefits
The salary range for this position is $73666 $114124 placement on the Salary Scale is in accordance with theCollective Agreementbetween TRU and TRUFA. This position offers an annual Professional Development Allowance participation in a Defined Pension Plan and 100% employer paid benefits which includes extended health & dental sick leave and short term and long term disability.
