Job Description

Position Objective

CPTC seeks a dynamic and dedicated NAC/Nursing Instructor to join our team. This individual will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals through engaging and supportive instruction. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for education a commitment to diversity equity and inclusion and a drive to continuously innovate within the field of nursing education.

As an NAC Instructor you will be responsible for delivering instruction in the classroom lab and clinical settings for the Nursing AssistantCertified (NAC) program. This fulltime adjunct position will be involved in providing instruction for both the regular Lakewood NAC program and the Corporate Education Virginia Mason Franciscan Health NAC Allied Health program. This includes teaching relevant content areas staying current with industry trends incorporating technology and effectively teaching at the professional and technical college level.

Additionally there may be additional opportunities for teaching in the nursing program (LPN). As a nursing Instructor at CPTC you will work on a team to develop implement and evaluate nursing curriculum across classroom lab and clinical/simulation settings. Collaboration with fellow faculty and staff is essential to maintain program accreditation standards and ensure curriculum relevancy. You will support a diverse student body through inclusive teaching practices and personalized student support initiatives. Your role will also involve fostering an environment of belonging and equity ensuring all students have equitable opportunities for success. Active participation in shared governance processes will allow you to contribute to the colleges strategic initiatives and decisionmaking.

Clover Park Technical College offers a permanent Base Salary of $82470. Additionally if you have a Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN) a temporary stipend will be added to your base salary making your temporary annual base salary $109685. If you have a Masters degree or higher a temporary stipend will be added to your base making the temporary annual base salary $116282. These stipends are subject to change given that this funding is exclusively contingent upon Washington State funding appropriated to the College by HB2158. The Permanent Base Salary is eligible for costofliving adjustments (COLA). The Temporary Annual Base Salaries and temporary stipend are not eligible for COLAs.

Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)

Duty: Implement and evaluate curriculum for students pursuing the nursing assistant certification or nursing.
Tasks include:

  • Deliver classroom lab and clinical instruction to students while being continuously informed about current state and federal requirements for nursing assistants
  • Responsibilities as an NAC instructor are defined in WAC 246841A430 and Federal Statute 42 CFR 483.152.
  • Ensure the accurate collection and maintenance of student records including academic and clinical onboarding information for the program. Assess and document student comprehension through assignments quizzes tests presentations observations and evaluation of acquired lab skills and clinical competencies.
  • Foster an engaging learning environment that promotes active participation enhances interpersonal skills encourages professional behaviors and supports the understanding of safe patient care concepts. Exhibit professionalism through appropriate traits and a positive attitude.
  • Attend a Common Curriculum Framework Orientation session within the first 12 months of hire with the Washington Board of Nursing Nursing Assistant Education division.
  • Utilizing an EDI lens create learning opportunities and instructional strategies for the courses taught.
  • Develop criteria for the selection and evaluation of clinical and practice experience in clinical practice settings addressing the safety and needs for students to achieve the program outcomes and course objectives.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of competence and mutual respect with students
  • Ensure that the classroom or lab is continuously kept clean organized and wellstocked with supplies needed to conduct the course. Instructors are responsible for ensuring clean linen is available for students to use for the skills lab portion of the course.
  • Model nursing processes and employability skills.
  • Collect and maintain accurate student records including but not limited to clinical onboarding records that adhere to FERPA and HIPAA privacy regulations.
  • Maintain a safe and engaging environment through instruction policy and continuous evaluation of the learning environment.
  • Provide Washington State Board of Nursing State Skills Testing Exam as part of the NAC Education Divisions Pilot Program initiative for Nursing Assistant Education.
  • Maintain current licenses and credentials required for certification and tenure purposes.
  • NAC instructor will be required to complete an American Heart Association CPR Instructor course within 3 months of hire as this is a component of teaching the lab portion of the NAC program. The cost of the CPR instructor may be covered through professional development funding.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Duty: Participate in curriculum review planning and evaluation
Tasks include:
  • Participate as an active member of the nursing team and evaluation committee to create implement and modify curriculum as required to meet learning outcomes.
  • Promote the Nursing programs and Clover Park Technical College.
  • Continuously work on completing Professional Development requirements. Participate in community program and college events including the CPTC graduation ceremony.
  • Serve as an active member of college committees and/or workgroups.
  • Attend staff meetings division meetings and programrelated meetings.
  • Participate in shared governance
  • Responsibilities may include developing presentation materials online courses managing supply inventory requesting supplies as needed attending meetings and other related tasks
  • Other duties as assigned

Duty: Perform support functions for the Nursing Program and the College.
Tasks Include:
  • Assist students enrolled in the NAC or nursing program by supporting advising and/or referring students as appropriate.
  • Provide scheduled office hours for student advising.
  • Assist with student recruitment and retention.
  • Provide and maintain program information and communication with the college community.
  • Attend and conduct program information sessions.
  • Outreach/Coordination with community partners & professional/technical advising boards
  • Participate in the maintenance and improvement of accreditation and accreditation processes for the School of Nursing and the governing institution.
  • Learn how to use commonly used college programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office 365/Windows 11 programs CTC Link Canvas 25Live and EAB Navigate.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) credential.
  • An active Washington State License to practice as a registered (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN) in good standing. The Washington State Nursing Commission may deny or withdraw an instructors approval if there is or has been any action taken against the instructor which disqualifies them from working with vulnerable populations.
  • One year of verifiable paid or unpaid work experience as a licensed nurse (LPN or RN) within the past three years providing direct patient care for the elderly or chronically ill of any age; or
  • Three years of verifiable paid experience as a licensed nurse at any time providing direct patient care for the elderly or chronically ill of any age and verifiable paid or unpaid work experience as a licensed nurse in any role for at least one of the last three years.
  • RN BSN preferred
