About the Opportunity

ABOUT THE PROGAM:

The Program is one of Northeasterns signature firstyear experiences and truly embodies the universitys experiential approach to education. Launched in 2007 The Program is rooted in our core belief that Northeastern students are curious adaptable and agile as they explore the world around them.

Through The Program students will have a rigorous academic experience intertwined with unique cultural and social opportunities outside of the classroom. Bolstered by a robust professional support system this onesemester experience supports students growth as global citizens and finetunes the skills they need to navigate their future.

Students admitted to the embark on a unique journey. They study abroad in their first semester with other Northeastern firstyear students at the location of their choice and begin their studies on the Boston campus during their spring semester. Partner universities provide academic courses to the participants while Northeastern staff provide onsite leadership and support services during the program.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Student Success Manager (SSM) role is a yearround fulltime benefitseligible position requiring the person in this role to live onsite with students for at least 5 months at one or more locations globally and then return to one of our Global Network campuses for the spring and summer. International housing is provided while on site at partner locations only. During the fall semester this individual will live onsite and oversee the student life experience at one of our global locations working in close partnership with university and partner colleagues. While abroad the SSM will work to ensure students are engaged and feel a part of a community. They will also serve as the point of contact for conduct and health and wellness related matters.

During the spring and summer semesters this individual will be primarily based at Northeasterns campus in Boston MA with the potential of working at other Global Network campuses as program management needs dictate. The Success Manager will work with Student Life and other campus partners on special projects and specific goals to support student and programmatic success.

This individual will work nontraditional hours including evenings and weekends supporting student programming and attending to the safety and wellbeing of students. They will also serve on an oncall rotation.

The SSM will supervise train and support assigned Global Student Success Coordinators at their NUin site.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Winter/Spring/Summer

  • Assist with recruiting and hiring new site staff. Assist with logistics of site staff training and student predeparture orientation for various mobility programs. Liaise with Student Life departments and engage with campuswide community building efforts for transition and integration support for pathway program students re/entering in the spring including providing tools to aid in transition and planning events and programs that connect students to each other and the university.
  • Work within Student Life on managing crisis situations and further develop skills to confidently triage and communicate with families and emergency contacts as situations arise. Serve as a conduct hearing officer as needs dictate.
  • Support Student Life offices as staffing needs dictate including but not limited to Residence Life We Care/Student Support Global Wellness Center for Student Life Disability Resource Center Office of University Equity and Compliance and the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution.

Fall

  • Act as the primary point of contact for students and staff while overseeing safety and security during crises and escalated emergencies. In partnership with the Global Experience Office site lead manage and track quality and diversity of academic social and cultural programs. Encourage student academic success respond to student concerns and connect students to onsite academic medical and mental health resources. Oversee conduct hearing officer.
  • Supervise support and evaluate a team of Student Success Coordinators in all aspects of their professional development and needs. Serve as a liaison with staff and faculty from the host institution and Student Life and GEO Central staffs through regular meetings and oral and/or written reports.

The Success Manager will work collaboratively to support the safety and wellbeing of students and contribute to the development and overall success of the students and the program. Responsibilities may vary based on site placement the needs of students Pathway Programs and Student Life.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This highly demanding position requires a significant amount of patience flexibility assertiveness diplomacy selfinitiative as well as experience living abroad and working in fastpaced and ambiguous environments. This position requires a unique and flexible individual prepared to navigate the personal and professional challenges of location changes varied responsibilities and multiple reporting lines.

  • Knowledge and skills for this position are typically obtained through a Bachelors degree and three to five years of demonstrated student life experience or higher education experience in a residence life or student affairs capacity. A Masters degree is preferred.
  • Experience with supervision leading teams and managing diverse groups of staff
  • Experience living working or studying abroad or demonstrated equivalent transitionary periods/experiences
  • Experience working closely with high school or undergraduate students (in a counselor residence life student affairs or related role)
  • Experience with crisis management mediation and conflict resolution
  • Flexibility and demonstrated ability to excel in fastpaced environments navigate ambiguity and take actions that satisfy diverse interests
  • Demonstrated history of supporting advocating for and/or leading DEI initiatives and values
  • Proven ability to coordinate and manage events for large groups with enthusiasm and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work well under challenging conditions demonstrate sound judgement and take actions that satisfy diverse or competing interests while achieving programmatic goals
  • Fluent in English
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain any required work authorization for the duration of appointment and work location assignments
  • Location/area expertise and local language proficiency preferred (if applicable)
  • Knowledge or experience of Northeastern University preferred

With the pay range(s) shown above the starting salary will depend on several factors which may include your education experience location knowledge and expertise and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarlysituated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
