Job Description

Competencies:

Knowledge of state bookkeeping accounts payable accounts receivable and financial record keeping.
Knowledge and direct experience with SABHRS financials and state government accounting procedures.
General knowledge of human resources and state and federal employment laws preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills customer service and problemsolving skills.
Microsoft Office Suite Word and proficiency with Excel spreadsheets.
Strong attention to detail organization time management and accuracy in all aspects of responsibilities.
Ability to learn and adhere to state and federal hiring laws and regulations.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Ability to collaborate with others on special projects and initiatives as needed.
Ability to learn SABHRS HR system.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience)

Associates degree in accounting business or related field OR two years of related accounting experience to substitute for the degree.
One year of state government accounting technician experience.
Expertise with SABHRS is highly preferred.
Previous experience supporting HR functions is desired but not required.
Alternate qualifications may be considered.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) seeks a dedicated accounting technician to assist with accounts payable accounts receivable fiscal year end duties and biweekly payroll processing and safety committee work including human resources assistance. The successful candidate will join our team of highly motivated staff who collaborate on interesting meaningful and critical work. Together we strive to meet our agencys goal of providing extraordinary service to the citizens of Montana.

Responsibilities:

Creates and reconciles legal notice invoices and communicates with vendors.
Reviews and tracks financial documents pay invoices and enters journals as initiated or requested.
Enters travel claims in SABHRS following state and agency policies and ensures accurate documentation.
Maintains and tracks financial documents including invoices receipts and other records.
Prepares monthly travel report for dissemination to leadership.
Assists or leads biweekly payroll processes including timesheet review report reconciliations and payroll verification approval.
Answers travel or payroll questions and responds to vendors inquiries.
Reviews accounting data for errors and prepares correction/adjustment journals.
Assists and processes fiscal year end duties.
Supports the Financial Accounting Analyst with preparation of bank deposit documentation.
Assists with fiscal note preparation and research and prepares financial data reports.
Assists with HR record keeping and document retention according to MT state schedules and assists with job postings.
Provides front desk coverage as needed.
Participates with and leads Safety Team meetings when requested takes minutes and records attendees.
Takes safety supply inventory and submits orders for safety items and checks monthly fire extinguishers for proper pressurization.
