Job Description

OVERVIEW:

The Day Camp Counselor helps plan and lead engaging faithbased youth programs prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of all children. Counselors follow center policies and take direction from the Ministry Assistant and/or Corps Officer while actively engaging with and supporting children throughout the day.

Dates: May 26thJune 30th 2025

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide prompt courteous service to participants and families
  • Follow all child safety policies and procedures
  • Assist with supervision and order of childrens groups
  • Maintain vigilant supervision including during transport
  • Respond calmly in security or crisis situations
  • Support checkin and signout processes
  • Stay informed on daily plans to assist effectively
  • Engage and encourage participation in activities
  • Help keep work and play areas clean and orderly
  • Assist with meal and snack prep and service
  • Ensure facility security and report concerns
  • Complete required trainings and attend staff meetings
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be at least 14 years of age (required)
  • First Aid and CPR certification (within 90 days of hire required)
  • California Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Certificate (required or company provided)
  • Experience working with children (preferred)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to manage challenging child behaviors
  • Ability to relate positively and energetically with others
  • Ability to maintain a nonjudgmental attitude
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Teamoriented and cooperative
  • Remain calm in a fastpaced environment
  • Communicate with empathy especially with vulnerable populations

EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Modern Office Equipment and Relevant Software
  • Janitorial and maintenance equipment
  • Playground and recreational equipment
  • Sports gear and supplies

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ablility to bend and lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Capable of visual and auditory supervision
  • Able to communicate verbally with children and staff
