Why Your Role Matters:
The City Futures Research Centre hosted by UNSWs Faculty of Arts Design and Architecture was established in 2005 to undertake research aiming to develop a better understanding of our cities their people the policies that manage their growth the issues they face and the impact they can have on our environment and economy. Over the last 20 years the Centre has been conducting worldclass research across a spectrum of housing issues including governance financing and development of social and affordable housing as well as the analysis of housing affordability and the operation of private housing markets.

This Associate Professor (Level D) or Professor (Level E) in Housing Economics will play a pivotal role in developing and leading a housing economics research agenda for the Centre working with City Futures Researchers in the Housing Program and also across the Centres other programs of research including city planning urban analytics sustainability mobility and healthy built environments. An Associate Professor (Level D) will play key role in leading and advancing outstanding national housing economics research undertake innovative teaching and engagement activities. In addition a Professor (Level E) will be expected to provide academic leadership and foster excellence in housing economics research with significant societal impact internationally
The role of Associate Professor or Professor reports to Director City Futures Research Centre and works closely with the Director of the City Planning Program School of Built Environment with respect to teaching responsibilities.

Responsibilities Summary:
Level D

  • Conduct original and innovative research that advances knowledge in relevant subject areas contributing to the discipline at a national level with emerging international impact.
  • Establish a distinguished highimpact research program and lead significant proposals to funding bodies such as AHURI and the ARC.
  • Maintain a strong record of substantial research income as a grant application leader and develop national and international research networks.
  • Engage with academic professional and international organisations aligned with the objectives of the City Futures Research Centre and Faculty.
  • Supervise HDR students to timely completion as primary supervisor recruit based on research reputation and mentor postdoctoral fellows and colleagues.
  • Undertake knowledge exchange activities and contribute to the commercialisation of research outcomes.
  • Apply a welldefined teaching philosophy and critically reflective teaching practice that inspires student learning and cultivates positive teaching environments.
  • Conduct undergraduate and postgraduate teaching including class delivery assessment and student support in line with UNSW policy.
  • Design and develop learning activities resources and assessment tools and contribute to program and curriculum development and academic quality assurance.

Level E (in addition to the above)

  • Make internationally recognised contributions to the discipline and contribute to securing internal and/or external education funding.
  • Strengthen UNSWs national and international profile as a leading centre in housing economics and policy through collaborations with academic peers in Australia and overseas.
  • Foster a culture of research excellence and deliver internationally significant research including securing competitive government and industry funding and publishing in highquality outlets.
  • Provide leadership in community professional commercial and industry sectors.
  • Lead major research proposals with competitive funding bodies and maximise impact for research end users.
  • Lead knowledge exchange activities engage with end users to generate income and drive commercialisation of research outcomes.
  • Initiate major research collaborations and chair or contribute to Centre School Faculty University and sectorwide committees working groups projects and other administrative functions.
  • Maintain professional development in pedagogy disciplinary expertise and relevant accreditation requirements.

Skills and Experience Summary:

Level D

  • A PhD in a related discipline (e.g. Economics Spatial Planning Urban Studies Housing Policy) and/or relevant professional experience.
  • Strong track record of research leadership with highquality highimpact outcomes and a demonstrated ability to achieve ongoing research excellence.
  • Expertise in applying quantitative and qualitative research methodologies relevant to housing market economics.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to teaching and research in housing policy and housing economics as well as related areas such as urban land environmental economics and social costbenefit analysis.
  • Experience designing and delivering undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses using diverse pedagogical approaches including educational technologies and online methods.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness educational leadership and a commitment to fostering excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Successful supervision of highcalibre research students and a strong record of supporting equity diversity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated success in building professional and industry engagement and partnerships.
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.

Level E (in addition to the above)

  • Evidence of being an inspirational role model for other academics seeking mentoring guidance advice and support.
  • Evidence of significant international as well as domestic academic esteem
  • Demonstrated capacity for research centre or cluster leadership as well as evidence of major project team leadership
  • Evidence of highquality supervision of honours and postgraduate research projects.
  • Proven leadership in developing significant productive relationships and engagement with government industry and the community with success in attracting significant industry funding.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead by example in supporting equal opportunity and equity diversity and inclusion policy and programs as they relate to staff and students
