The Georgia Public Health Laboratory (GPHL) is responsible for detecting identifying and reporting infectious diseases in the State of Georgia. The Division is responsible for maintaining expertise and capability in a wide variety of public health specialties.
The GPHLis seeking an experienced laboratory professional with a strong background in method development and validation and molecular sequencing to oversee our Advanced Molecular Detection unit. This unit will is a new unit in the Georgia Public Health Laboratory that will be primarily responsible for new method development validation and training in the areas of molecular testing. The incumbent will serve as the Manager for Advanced Molecular Detection Unit.This midlevel manager position reports directly to the Deputy Director.
As the manager of this unit the incumbent will be responsible for the oversight of direct reports and managing daytoday operational activities that include all aspects of specimen receipt processing and testing. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the completeness accuracy and timeliness of reporting and for approving results. This person also will ensure that there is adequate inventory to perform all tests and will work with the Deputy Director to ensure the most current test methods and instrumentation are being used.
The candidate will collaborate with internal and external partners including laboratory colleagues in various departments the quality assurance team epidemiologists local clinical labs academia and professionals at the CDC.
To be considered for this position the individual must meet the qualifications of a technical supervisor for the specialty microbiology.
Administrative
Laboratory Operations
Bachelors degree in any related discipline from an accredited college or university and seven (7) years of job related experience which includes five (5) years in a managerial role; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower level Mgr Health Laboratory (LSM010) or position equivalent. Note: Must meet state clinical laboratory licensure personnel requirements as technologist and federal (CLIA 88) requirement for high complexity technical supervisor.

DPH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree diploma licensure etc.
