The Behavioral Threat Assessment Management Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students within schools by ensuring that schools follow the district guidelines. This role involves the case management of threat assessments suicide risk assessments overseeing child abuse reporting and providing immediate crisis response. The specialist will collaborate with district and school administrators law enforcement and mental health professionals to assess risks develop intervention plans and manage emergencies such as threats of violence or suicide concerns. Additionally the specialist will educate school personnel on identifying and reporting abuse and potential threats provide support during crises and maintain accurate documentation of assessments and interventions. Knowledge of Behavioral Threat Assessment Management Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale and Child Abuse reporting as well as community outreach programs is crucial to the success of this position. The position may require occasional evening work and travel between schools.

  • Reports consistently for work as scheduled

  • Attains proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards

  • Advise facilitate and train schools on interventions

  • Advises staff on possible avenues of interventions as required

  • Analyses assessment to advise on appropriate post assessment management

  • Assists in the development implementation and training of safety assessment programs

  • Assists with developing and maintain strong community relationships which strengthen the student assessment and management process and help support wrap around services

  • Assists with operation of and serves on the district level BTAM team (behavioral threat assessment management)developing and presenting reports analysis assessment and trend data and presenting recommendations. Works with other district departments such as security learning services risk management and others

  • Applies knowledge of the ways in which learning takes place including the appropriate levels of intellectual physical social and emotional development of their students

  • Complies with applicable state and federal laws district administrative policies procedures practices and location requirements

  • Demonstrates high standards for ethical and professional conduct

  • Demonstrates knowledge of effective services that reduce barriers to and support learning

  • Demonstrates knowledge of their professions and integrate evidencebased practices and research findings into their services

  • Demonstrates leadership and advocacy in the school the community and their profession

  • Demonstrates mastery of and expertise in school counseling/ social work

  • Develops and implements services related to student needs learning and progress towards goals

  • Develop maintain and deliver training for safety assessment tools and process to district staff

  • Engages students as individuals with diverse needs and interests across a range of ability levels by adapting services for the benefit of students

  • Ensures that students are supervised at all times

  • Ensure timely assessment of student safety concerns

  • Establishes and communicates high expectations and use strategies to support the development of critical thinking problemsolving skills and selfadvocacy

  • Follows established policies and procedures regarding the health safety welfare and education of students

  • Fosters a safe accessible and predictable learning environment characterized by acceptable student behavior and efficient use of time in which each student has a positive nurturing relationship with caring adults and peers

  • Initiates regular communication with the District BTAM team regarding critical and time sensitive information

  • Integrates and utilizes appropriate available technology to engage students in authentic learning experiences

  • Links professional growth to professional goals

  • Maintains confidentiality of staff and student information

  • Maintains a variety of records to include sensitive and confidential information

  • Manages and advises staff on behavioral threat assessment and management from inception to closure

  • Models and promotes effective communication

  • Models appropriate conduct at all times

  • Provides input for new and existing procedures to ensure smooth and effective operation

  • Provides services aligned with state and federal laws local policies and procedures Colorado Academic Standards the organized plan of instruction and the individual needs of students

  • Remains current with applicable laws and district policies pertaining to threat assessment suicide and mandatory reporting

  • Responds as directed and as necessary in safety and/or crisis situations

  • Responds to a complex dynamic environment

  • Reviews threat assessment suicide assessment mandatory reporting and assists with applicable investigation processes and conducting training and assisting directly with investigations

  • Support staff using MultiTiered System of Supports (MTSS) to respond to student assessment needs

  • Student staff with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and 504 to responds to student assessment needs

  • Understands and responds to diversity within the home school and community

  • Uses effective conflict resolution

  • Uses and integrates technology to support professional responsibilities instruction data interpretation and student learning

  • Uses feedback and reflects about professional practice to improve teaching and learning

  • Utilizes formal and informal assessments to inform planning and service delivery

  • Will respond to crisis situations as needed as they pertain to student safety assessments

  • Works collaboratively with the families and/or significant adults for the benefit of students

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors (Baccalaureate) degree (e.g. B.A. A.B. B.S.)

  • Masters degree (e.g. M.A. M.S. M.S.W.) in School Counseling Social Work or a related area

  • Special Services Provider License: Initial Colorado Department of Education (School Counselor or Social Worker)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hold or be able to obtain Behavioral Threat Assessment Certification (i.e. Association of Threat Assessment Professional or equivalent)

  • Leadership Experience in an Educational Setting

  • 35 Years Experience of School Mental Health and or Crisis Work

Compensation Range:

$70185$80185

(Based on job relevant experience at 100% FTE)
