Our client is currently looking for QA inspectors for contract work in Saskatchewan. The work would start in June 2025.
For this position the Inspector needs to be an independent contractor (IC). This is not a fulltime position. The contractor needs to be able to work intermittent work with a flexible schedule when an inspection is requested by the client.
The scope of work includes:
Inspection activities for Repairs Alterations Installation and Periodic inspections of pressure equipment as required by Saskatchewan Boiler & Pressure Vessel Act & Regulations and CSAB51. This work will be performed under the Clients Quality Management System Manual (QMS) and Quality Control Program Manual (QCP). It covers both maintenance and new construction.
Supply of all labour materials and equipment necessary to provide Quality Control/Quality Assurance Services at several plans and locations including Major Construction. The scope of this Work includes but not limited to:
Inspection of new equipment
Periodic inspections
Issuing inspection certificates and reports for pressure equipment.
Oversight of code repairs performed by the applicable Stations maintenance contractor and/or the Client.
The Services will be used on the steam generator (boiler) pressure vessels pressure piping and at the Clients discretion equipment not within the jurisdiction of the Saskatchewan Boilers and Pressure Vessels Act & Regulations.
The Quality Assurance Inspector is required to oversee and complete work pertaining to the Clients Quality Management System (QMS) & Quality Control Program to ensure that quality assurance requirements are met.
The services required are for additional QA Inspection coverage to support the clients current personnel on an as needed basis.
The inspector is responsible to:
- Ensure all legal and corporate requirements are met (ASME Codes Saskatchewan Act and Regulations NBIC CSA B51 the Clients Quality Management System & Quality Control Manual Functional Specification Boiler Inspection manual Run/Repair/Replace Program SAP (Systems Applications and Products) and Quality Control Data Base.
- Lead Quality Assurance requirements during Overhaul and Outage activities.
- Secure and submit Near Miss data.
- Complete overhaul welder testing as required (for GMC).
- Provide surge volume support for Plant QA staff as required and assigned.
- Support Quality Control staff secondary to Plant QA resource.
- New Construction Support.
- Investigate and resolve equipment dispositioned as do not operate.
- Refer situations to the Manager QA which are not resolved.
- Resolve technical nonconformances at the plant site and ensure corrective actions are taken.
- Forward unresolved nonconformances to the Manager QA for resolution.
- Review inspect and approve repairs and alterations to pressure equipment in accordance with the Quality Management System.
- Perform pressure equipment (including pressure piping) and pressure relief device periodic inspections. Record findings on the Inspection reports.
- Perform inspection of pressure equipment (including pressure piping) repairs alterations and new construction.
- Ensure pressure equipment database is updated and current. Produce and sign off inspection certificates.
- Complete exhibits within the Quality Management Manual.
- Complete applicable Exhibits in the Quality Control Manual such as Inspection and Test Plans Liquid Pressure Test NCR.
- Complete applications for Licence to Operate.
- Assist in nonroutine repair procedure development and submission to the Jurisdiction.
- Supervise and monitor performance of subordinate staff and contract staff as assigned by the Manager QA.
- Provide Transmission Building and Industrial Services Quality Assurance requirements.
- Report any information to the Clients Quality Control Administrator or QA Manager that may be of interest.
Qualifications :
- Must have a valid Saskatchewan Licence Pressure Equipment Inspectors Certificate (LPEI) Class 1; Boilers / Pressure vessels / Piping. Required copy of valid LPEI cert.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in an industrial setting 2 years directly applicable to pressure equipment inspections repairs alterations or new construction.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of ASME Codes and Reference Standards: Section VIII (vessel) Section I (boiler) B31.1 (Power Piping) B31.3 (Process Piping) and National Board Inspection Code: Part 1 Part 2 & Part 3.
- Past projects experience of similar nature and complexity corporate resource / project team qualifications and experience relating to providing Quality Assurance Services for inspection and repair of pressure equipment.
- Quality Assurance / Inspection experience at Power Stations.
- Schedule: The Contractor may be requested to work on a flexible schedule for 10hour work day but may be up to 13 hours per day (day and night shifts). This contract is not full time but intermittent work (i.e. when & where required). Annual and major overhauls are normally conducted working 7 days per week and 24 hrs per day. ** Maximum shift a contractor can work is 12 days on/2 days off. Other shifts within these parameters are allowed (i.e. 6 days on then 1 day off). On occasion the client might require an 18 day on/ 3 days off shift schedule.
- Hourly rate: $85 $90/hr.
- If an inspections is beyond a round trip of 200 KMs from the Inspector place of residence then a per diem of $150/day will be paid.
