***The Department of Corrections is currently offering a hire incentive bonus of up to $15000.00 to newly hired Mental Health Clinicians 2. The incentive bonus will be paid in two equal installments minus mandatory deductions. The first installment will be paid 90 calendar days after the first day of employment and upon demonstrating an overall midacceptable performance rating. The second and final installment will be paid upon the employees successful completion of the probationary period. Payments will be due within sixty (60) calendar days of such request. To receive an incentive employees are expected to agree to a threeyear term of employment with the Department of Corrections.***



The Department of Corrections Division of Health & Rehabilitation Services is recruiting for a Mental Health Clinicians 2 to join the team at the Hiland Mountain Correctional Center (HMCC) located in Eagle River Alaska.

You Will Be Doing:

Under the supervision of the Mental Health Clinician 3 this position will:

  • Identify severely mentally ill (SMI) individuals convicted of felony charges who are transitioning from DOC custody to felony probation in the Anchorage area.
  • Plan and coordinate individualized treatment services for identified SMI people while promoting public safety and reducing the risk of recidivism and reinstitutionalism by arranging appropriate communitybased services.
  • Assess and monitor their caseload in the community while communicating with and supporting service providers.
  • Act as a liaison between DOC mental health probation court and community service providers to troubleshoot and promote mutual understanding of clinical forensic and other issues affecting the client and testify in court and attend Parole Board Hearings as needed.
  • Require clinical knowledge and skills however the position does not involve providing clinical services.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position is located primarily at the Anchorage Probation Office Building within an office setting. This position will work closely with a team of mental health clinicians and medical staff.

It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom online selfstudy and onthejob) from accredited and unaccredited sources and longduration (such as a postsecondary degree) and shortduration (such as a seminar) programs.


Typically gained by means the prevalent usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.


Special Note:

Some positions require the incumbent be licensed as a Clinical Social Worker or a Licensed Professional Counselor. This requirement will be addressed in the job posting.

Starting salary may be approved up to Step D $3078.00 if criteria are met.

A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
