Responsibilities
The Charlotte Lab School Exceptional Childrens Lab Contained Teacher will have responsibilities in a self contained classroom primarily with students who identify on the autism spectrum in support of Labs instructional vision:
- Create and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Maintain Individualized Education Plans in conjunction with state and federal requirements
- Hold annual meetings with families to provide progress updates
- Complete progress reports quarterly based on specific student goals
- Complies with timelines and regulations as outlined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
- Obtains and maintains compliant special education files
- Deliver specialized instruction to students on his/her caseload
- Develop lesson plans based on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Deliver student instruction in modalities instituted by the school and assigned program in both pullout and inclusion settings that is datadriven
- Facilitate interdisciplinary instruction of challengebased curriculum aligned with Labs Quest model
- Use flexible grouping and scheduling
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff
- Provides assistance in developing and adapting curriculum materials to meet the needs of student and teachers
- Maintains communication with related service providers and case managers to ensure compliance with the provision of services evaluations and progress reports
- Participate in weekly team meetings
- Analyze data and reports to guide goal setting and instructional planning
- Monitor student progress through a variety of tools and portfolios
- Provide necessary supports to aid instruction in the general education setting
- Proctor standardized tests
- Communicate frequently and regularly with families of students for both academic and behaviorrelated reasons both positive and when needing assistance;
- Participate actively in Labs community activities in support of Labs instructional communitybuilding fundraising family recruitment and hiring efforts;
- Participate actively in ongoing professional development and teacher evaluation process;
- Supervise students and maintain a clean orderly safe printrich and positive classroom learning environment;
- Take on other responsibilities as needed and as assigned to ensure student and school success.
The Charlotte Lab School Lower School Teacher will also have responsibilities in support of Labs vision for students socialemotional learning:
- Serve as an advisor to a small group of students; in this role:
- Deliver a socialemotional skills curriculum;
- Develop deep relationships with students in your advisory;
- Develop and implement activities to build community within the advisory;
- Serve as an advocate for advisees for both academic and disciplinary reasons;
- Provide regular updates and communication with advisees families;
- Guide advisees in the preparation of their StudentLed Conferences each trimester;
- Operate as liaison between advisees families and the school.
Qualifications
Candidate MUST:
- Be able/willing to learn how to fulfill the responsibilities listed above;
- Hold a Bachelors degree from a four year institution;
- Demonstrate experience in or passion for teaching diverse populations.
- Be fully licensed or willing to obtain North Carolina K5 68 and/or 912 teacher licensure;
In addition the Lab School Leadership Team will look favorably upon candidates who:
TEACHER PREPARATION:
- Have a least 2 years of fulltime teaching experience;
- Have experience teaching relevant Elementary School Content Area;
- Have an advanced degree in a related field;
- Have comfort with technology and experience with Google Suite;
- Possess strong classroom management skills;
- Are exceptionally organized and have ability to prioritize effectively and meet competing deadlines;
- Have experience with standards based grading;
- Have dualcertification to teach Elementary School students and:
- Exceptional Children
- Academically Gifted students
- English as a Second Language;

Compensation
Charlotte Lab School offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience and education level using our compensation rubric. All salaries are determined pending verification of experience by our Finance/HR divisions and Board of Directors budget approval. Please note the following regarding use of the rubric:
- Assistant instructional dean and director salaries (Grades 14) are determined based on 1 year credit for 1 year of teaching and/or other relevant experience. Increased pay for advanced degrees (which may include specialized leadership programs or certifications) is indicated above and paid on the basis on completion of qualifying programs.
- Leadership salaries (Grades 5 and above) are determined based on 1 year credit for 1 year of leadership experience and .5 year credit for each year of teaching experience. Advanced degrees are assumed so not considered in this scale.
The position also includes medical insurance for the employee with voluntary dental and vision plans and spouse/family coverage. Lab also provides access to a Flexible Spending Account for health and childcare expenses and an opportunity to contribute to a 403b retirement plan. Lab provides the opportunity for Lab employees to earn 10 PTO days each year (1/month). Full time Charlotte Lab School faculty members also receive priority in the student admissions process.
