What do you offer

The Team Leader directs supports supervises assists and leads members of the YMCA of the National Capital Region Aquatics team to ensure the safety and satisfaction of members in the centers aquatics programs. This position works collaboratively with the aquatics team on strategies to improve the members experience and program quality and thereby increase member satisfaction and retention. Team Leaders take a handson approach to facilitating the delivery of family focused programs and services as well as helping to monitor and support program quality. The Team Leader assists swim instructors in developing designing and delivering program content that meets the needs of participants at various levels. This position ensures that all lesson participants are registered in the correct swim level for their ability conducts swim assessments and makes recommendations based on swimming ability as needed. The Team Leader collaborates with the Aquatics Supervisor to train the Aquatics team.

Some of the tasks of this position include:

  • Directing supporting supervising assisting and leading members of the Aquatics team.
  • Conducting training huddles at the end of each lesson block to provide immediate constructive feedback and guidance to the Aquatics team.
  • Ensuring that the aquatics team adheres to the Swim Instructor and Lifeguard Behaviour Grids.
  • Ensuring classes start and finish according to scheduled times.
  • Managing daily swim lesson rosters.
  • Reviewing worksheets and completing progress cards.
  • Supporting the Membership Sales and Service team in maintaining and updating the membership system as it pertains to Aquatics registrations.

    What qualifications and abilities are we looking for

    The successful candidate will have the following:
    Language

    • Fluent in English oral and written
    • Bilingualism is an asset

    Experience Skills and Abilities

    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Welldeveloped interpersonal and relationship building skills
    • Basic understanding of pool operations
    • Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in high stress situations
    • Ability to work in a team environment and effectively lead a team

    Additional Requirements:

    • Applicants must have a current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification.
    • Applicants must have a current National Lifeguard (NL) certification.
    • Applicants must have a current Y Swim Instructor or LSS Swim Instructor certification.
    • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
    • A Police Record check not more than 6 months old is Records checks are reviewed on an individual basis and the offense(s) if any is considered in the decisionmaking process in relation to the requirement of working with children therefore not eliminating all candidates with a record from being offered a position.
    • Semiannually staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.
