Are you a skilled IT professional looking for meaningful public service work Consider this opportunity at the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The primary purpose of the Electronics Technician II (Radio Engineer) position within the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) is to provide maintenance of mobile and portable telecommunications equipment and networks throughout the state.


Job duties/responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Managing programming maintaining troubleshooting repairing and/or exchanging modules in a variety of mobile electronic electrical mechanical and telecommunications equipment
  • Staying current with best practices including learning new methods and adapting procedures to maintain uptodate knowledge on the installation maintenance and repair of telecommunications equipment (i.e. modems Mobile Data Computers test equipment etc.)
  • Utilizing a wide variety of electronic testing equipment and software
  • Reading comprehending and applying knowledge of NCSHP rules regulations policies procedures directives forms reports training manuals geographic locations and technical reference manuals to perform job duties

This positions work schedule is Monday Friday 8am 5pm. This positions assigned workstation is Troop G Radio Shop in Asheville NC (Buncombe County).

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associates degree in electronics from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressive experience in the repair and maintenance of complex electronic systemsincluding some responsibility for the design of electronic apparatus;
or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Based on the nature of work performed may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.

Note: The licensure required for this position is a Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) and/or the equivalent which must be gained within 6 months of employment date.

Job duties for this position require driving a state vehicle. A valid drivers license must be obtained by date of hire.
