The Department of Economic Security Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services (DERS) strengthens Arizona communities by bridging and minimizing gaps to employment and independence.

DES is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as an Auditor II with the Unemployment Insurance Administration (UIA). This position is responsible for working directly with employers or their authorized representatives independently performing professional and comprehensive audits and other investigations to ensure compliance with the Arizona Unemployment Insurance (UI) Tax Law. Also applying professional auditing standards methods and procedures to review employer accounting systems and financial records for businesses of varying sizes and entity types.

Travel will be required for State business. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current valid classappropriate drivers license complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary drivers license record checks. The license must be current unexpired and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on State business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on State business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code A.A.C. R210207.11).

This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona based upon the departments business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Across our many agencies boards commissions many State employees participate in the States Remote Work Program and are able to work remotely in their homes in oces and in hoteling spaces. All work including remote work should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Independently determines compliance with UI tax law and regulations by examination of the employers accounting and financial records such as timecards payroll registers journals paychecks and reconciling to state and federal employment tax reports.
Ensures proper reporting of wages & payments of employment taxes by verifying accuracy of records including disbursement journals general ledger canceled checks financial statements IRS 1099 forms contracts invoices & income tax returns to identify & determine correct worker classification and unreported wages.
Analyzes interprets & applies state statutes rules and precedent decisions of the Unemployment Tax Section or other state & federal agencies to ensure accuracy integrity & conformance to laws & regulations.
Performs Benefits Investigations of employer records to ensure proper payments by timely resolution of issues relating to disputed wage amounts or employer liability. Determine correct worker classification under applicable law through independent investigations & personal interviews of business owners or officers and workers.

Knowledge of business entities including corporations limited liability companies partnerships and sole proprietorships.
Knowledge of varying accounting systems utilized by employers.
Knowledge of state law rules and corresponding provisions of federal statutes and precedent rulings.
Knowledge of Field Office and Revenue Unit operating procedures.
Skill in researching comprehending and applying relevant statutes rules precedent cases.
Skill in interpersonal communication as applied in interviews of employers their representatives claimants or workers.
Ability to understand explain and apply laws and regulations in employment situations.
Ability to determine employer liability recognize excluded employment and identify worker misclassification.
Ability to plan analyze coordinate activities and establish priorities in order to maintain an appropriate inventory of audit assignments and complete work timely.
