We are currently seeking a talented Grade 3 French Immersion teacher (1.0 FTE) to join the
Ecole Whitehorse Elementary is located within the traditional territory of the people of Kwanlin Dn First Nation and the Taan Kwchn Council. cole Whitehorse Elementary is a singletrack French Immersion school Grades K7 with a student population of approximately 450. Our bilingual students enjoy learning in French everyday with specialty classes in music outdoor education Applied Art and Design and Physical Education all instructed in French. We have a vibrant sports culture with running clubs intermural sports and outdoor education. Our music movement and arts programming delivered in French strive to promote the arts. Assignment: Grade 3 French Immersion teacher
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent with specialization in elementary education;
- Recent teaching experience and/or preservice practicum teaching experience in a primary French Immersion program;
- Experience using experiential and playbased instruction;
- Experience teaching and/or training in teaching using researchedbased practices in literacy acquisition in both French and English;
- Fully fluent in French and English;
- Experience integrating selfregulation and socialemotional care practices in the classroom is an asset;
- Postsecondary training in teaching French Immersion and/or second language acquisition would be an asset.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
- The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications skills and knowledge but also knowledge of effective instructional practices in literacy and numeracy including the ability to apply assessment for as and of student learning within an inclusive French Immersion context;
- Effective classroom management planning and organization skills;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills working with students parents administration other staff members and consultants;
- Willingness to deliver curriculum through outdoor experiential activities;
- Ability to work as a member of a professional team and willingness to participate in the total school program;
- Ability to provide positive intervention in a developmentally responsive way including the promotion of student selfregulation and restorative approach;
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations people and a culturally diverse student population.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
