Position Summary
Coordinate and assist with University of Idaho Extension urban horticulture diagnostic services public outreach and volunteer management (Master Gardener Volunteer Development Program) in Canyon County. Help coordinate and assist the Horticulture Extension Educator with educational activities and various programming across Canyon County and beyond.
Required Qualifications
Associates level degree in Applied Horticulture Technology or closely related discipline; or two years experience in horticulture or a related field. Experience with basic horticulture plant pathology and entomology; plant diseases insects soils climate and landscape materials of Southern Idaho. Experience with customer service. Experience working with youth or adults in educational or volunteer settings. Experience using computers to enter and retrieve information; Microsoft Office software (Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint Publisher). Experience answering a business telephone. Experience communicating in person and in writing. Experience working with people of all ages from different backgrounds. Experience working as a member of a professional team as well as working independently; multitasking and being self motivated. Attend additional training to pursue certification and licensing as a Certified Nursery Technician/Diagnostician and Statewide Pesticide Consultant as needed to enhance position.
Preferred Qualifications
B.S. degree in Horticulture Plant Science or closely related scientific discipline. Experience with University of Idaho Extension; UI Extension Master Gardener Program or 4H Youth Development volunteer programs. Bilingual with the ability to speak read and write in Spanish and adapt or translate materials as needed. Certified Idaho Master Gardener; Certified Nursery Technician/Diagnostician; Licensed Personal or Professional Pesticide Applicator or Licensed Statewide Pesticide Consultant ( ISDA ).
